NEWPORT -- A woman told a burglar to leave twice before shooting him in the head, Newport police said Monday.
Phyllis Maloney, 63, told officers that a man she did not know walked in the back door of her home at 16th and Monmouth at about 1 a.m.
Maloney said she told the man to leave, but he refused, even moving to touch her. She said she backed up and got a gun out of a drawer and pointed it at him, again telling him to leave.
When the man refused a second time and started moving toward her, Maloney said, she fired the gun. A neighbor's surveillance camera captured the flash of the gunshot.
"She's just the sweetest lady, and how brave of her, to have to do what she did," said neighbor Audra Baker.
The man, Jordan Risheberger, 21, wearing only boxer shorts, was found dead in a front room.
Newport police are still investigating the incident.
He shoulda listened to her.

Not necessarily. A flash can reflect off walls and windows and be seen around corners.
She showed admirable restraint, but did what she had to do when the time came.

Another story says the guy had just left a party at a nearby house and may have been drunk or high.
That story also said that the woman who shot him had been undergoing chemo and was frail.

WLWT broadcasts out of Cincinnati, but this Newport is right over the river in Kentucky.
