I worked the Food Concessions table at swim meets held in downtown Chicago at the Univ. of IL athletic pavilion.

Minorities spectating at basketball games in the facility would purchase food at our concessions as the basketball program had no food for sale. Rarely would the basketball spectators purchase the fruits or veggies that we were selling. They almost always purchased our pizza, pop, and nachos—and they almost always asked for EXTRA CHEESE.

These people could have purchased eggs, pasta salad, fruit salad, hamburgers, fruit and veggies, but they chose not to, not because it was not available.

NAS Norfolk is a “food desrt.”

... as is all of Camp Pendleton, CA.
I wonder if the Marine Corps knows this?

We don’t have enough corporate welfare (fascism). Moochelle demands mo. Any retailer that builds their business on that house of cards will surely die just like the banksters who agreed with Clinton to give loans to people with no money to improve home loan race quotas.

If I saw Michelle trying to will a market into existence for my business in a communiity where no one has any money and everyone has a lot of crime, I would run in the opposite direction. Someone should follow her around with a sign reading “Remember Detroit and the real estate market!”

The two things I most miss living here: we don’t have a “used bread store” within less than 60 miles; and the nearest “dented can store”, since the local one closed, is 45 miles, along the way to the day old bread place...and Sam’s Club.

Oh, and I miss Costco—350 miles to the nearest.

Third, the reason there are less fewer grocery stores in urban black areas is not because businesses do not wish to make money or to locate there. There are less fewer stores there because they get robbed blind by their customers.

Moochelle is dressed like she’s going to wash the windows. The other two are nicely dressed.

Okay, after looking at the map, I figured out the problem. It is based on U.S Sensless Bureau “tracts”, rather than any real measure of time/distance/availability.

An example of the lack of reality involved:

Our SD county is shown as 100% not food desert, even though a lot of the populace live 15-30 miles from the nearest store; and the same for our neighboring rural SD county to the north.
In the neighboring NE county to our south, also rural, only a tiny area is NOT food desert; that tiny area has the only town with shopping in that county, which is bigger than ours.
To the west, in neighboring Wyoming, that rural county is 100% food desert, INCLUDING the town that has grocery stores.

I live near a “food desert”; Newark NJ has almost no chain supermarkets. The savages robbed them into ruin, and now have to raid along the frontier instead.

At the same time, just one pizza/fried chicken joint in Newark probably sells more calories in a day than our Shop-Rite.

Just as easily, she could be a real First Lady. She could go to those communities, off-camera, and say "Hey, if you want stores in your community, you gotta stop rippin' them off!" Positive effect? Like Bill Cosby?

I thought exactly the same thing.

People like Barack and Michelle Obama don't want to address the real problems in the black community.

It isn't crime and immorality that is the problem - it is guns!

It isn't illegitimacy and dysfunctional families that are the problem - it is not enough Food Stamps, Section 8 Housing, and Welfare!

It isn't people pigging out on fast food and junk food - it is a lack of healthy gourmet grocery stores in their community!

Enough.

The problems in the black community are immense, and need real leaders, who are few in number. All of the Congressional Black Criminal Caucus members are race and poverty pimps, and corrupt racists as well.

No one addresses the "S" word either - sin.

In any area (black, white, Hispanic) where God is accepted and turned to, things get better.

Crime, fornication, theft, hatred, sloth - these are all sins.

We don't need Barack and Michelle Obama.

We need Jesus Christ.

“Rarely would the basketball spectators purchase the fruits or veggies that we were selling. They almost always purchased our pizza, pop, and nachos—and they almost always asked for EXTRA CHEESE.”

We have the most obese “poor people” in the world; it is hard to push the “starving children” line when urban kids have bigger “moobs” than their welfare queen moms and aunts...

As an ugly, out of shape older person, I do not like to make fun or even comment on another person’s looks.

I don’t like the Obamas because their policies are hurting the country. I think they’re wrong and arrogant. I want them replaced and always remembered as anti-America country destroyers and idiots.

I think its racists to expect blacks to eat like whites people. Another point is that these “food deserts” lack more than just grocery stores. These areas could hardly be considered part of civilization as it is. If it weren’t for the constant injections of money appropriated from working people living far away, these zones would revert back into savage wilderness overnight. No electricity, no water, no law and order. It would become the jungle in every sense of the word. The problem isn’t some geographic area or lines on a map. The problem is with the population that dwells there.

By “food desert,” she means “union desert.” The Rats want more union grocery stores.

Exactly. I’ve seen 10 packages of frozen PBJ sandwiches on white bread bought on food stamps. What the idiot spent on this luxury item could have bought a months worth of bread, peanut butter and a jar of jelly. Of course, the frozen PBJ had the crust cut off.

It’s laziness, pure and simple. Go back to limiting the the of purchases that can be made through food stamps and some of that obesity would fall to the wayside.

Even though I have to drive 12 miles to a grocery store I’m not considered to be in a ‘food desert’. What I notice about the area within a 20 mile radius of me is that the two so called food deserts are in downtown ares populated by minorities. These downtown areas are exactly where the grocery stores are located.
