The most prominent candidate for the GOP nomination is former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. He's a prolific fundraiser and enjoys widespread name recognition, and he's the darling of the GOP establishment. George Will lists him as one of the few serious presidential candidates.
But should Romney be the GOP's presidential nominee? The answer is "absolutely not."
As Selwyn Duke rightly wrote in 2007, Romney is the Barack Obama of the GOP. Every Republican has made his share of mistakes, but Romney is a committed liberal on the whole spectrum of issues.
And, as Doug Brady points out, President Romney would not stop America's march to socialism and shrink the federal government. In the best case, he would only halt it, and with it, America's decline. But there's no reason to doubt that he will flip-flop again and insist that Obama's schemes are salvageable, if only he's be there to do the right trimming around the edges.
It is nonsense to claim that Romney, as a "moderate," can appeal to centrist/independent voters and thus win the election. Independents don't vote for Republicans who are not significantly different from their Democratic rivals. Romney is, on the issues, so aligned with Obama that there's no real difference between them. When faced with a choice between a liberal Democrat and a liberal Republican, Americans always choose the Democrat (vide 1976, 1992, 1996, and 2008). An overt RINO can never defeat a Democrat.
The reason why Romney is even considered for the nomination is because of his name recognition, establishment pedigree, the establishment's praise for him, and liberal media propaganda. The MSM wants to make sure that Romney becomes the nominee because he would be the easiest candidate for Obama to beat. Team Obama is already praying that Romney crosses the finish line first.

I suspect they don't like him any more than they liked Juan McCain. They just see him as the easiest candidate to promote at the moment to give Zer0 a fighting chance to win.
I can almost hear the sickening children’s show theme song for “Willard the RINO”..........
WHY ROMNEY WILL NOT WIN THE NOMINATION OR BE PRESIDENT:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) is the 4th Largest religious group in America.
There are 13 million Mormons world-wide; about the same number as there are Jews.
5.5 million are in the U.S.; equal to the number of Muslims.
1.5 million are in Utah leaving 4 million spread around the rest of the nation. That’s not enough to pull him through to victory in the GOP nomination process or make a difference in the General Election.
If he is nominated, his religion will sabotage his campaign. One cable news network has already had a “Man on the Street” interview asking people: “Would you want a President who believes that he will have his own planet in eternity?” He would lose the General Election for sure.
Is Jim DeMint still for Romney?
A Romney nomination will guarantee a second Obama term. We have no idea what Romney’s real beliefs are. Many conservatives, I included, will not vote for Romney in any election.
People seem to vote for name recognition. Wish I knew what we can do to change that.
i’m not voting for romney,
no matter what the liberal-rino progressives media say.
I’m worried that Dems will go heavy for Romney in open primary states as a reverse “Op Chaos”.
I’m not familiar enough with the details to know if that can put him over the top.
And the only Republican candidate to call him on it is Cong. Thad McCotter of Michigan. He said Pres. Obama and Romney should be running mates, not opponents.
“Im worried that Dems will go heavy for Romney in open primary states as a reverse Op Chaos.”
I wonder what can be done about that so we don’t get another McCain.
Spot on. Romney is a New England betrayer like the Maine sisters. Any election with him as GOP nominee has the same predictable line as the last one.
Romney for some odd reason has by husband fooled....I think it is the “hey, he made money out of the Olympics” mentality. The poor man is delusional and that could pertain to either of the aforementioned.
I have argued with this misinformed man till I am blue state in the face! I suspect if this nonsense of his support of Romney continues, I will have to vacate the property.
As a side bar, I am a Perry supporter if he gets in. If not its Bachmann or Santorum for me!
Can anyone explain the “Romney effect” to me...perhaps if I understand the condition I can help sure it.
The Dems and media has already selected Mittens as the Repub nominee. They always select the candidate for us. Nothing to see here, move along.
I am not voting for Romney, either. I said that about McCain and wound up voting for him, anyway, but it was because of Palin. Not getting fooled again. No more RINOs!
Mitt is my only worry about 012.
Because I’m certain Obama wins any 3-way election with a Clintonian plurality.
I hate to say this, but the vast majority of eligible voters are lazy, self-centered boobs raised on headlines, sound bites and instant gratification. They are entirely incapable of serious thought and they will be completely manipulated by the media because they would prefer to occupy themselves with their iPhones and Playstations and wait for someone to tell them how to vote. They can then go to the polls and validate that judgement, proudly feeling that they have done their duty for their country. As an added bonus, they can feel like winners when “their” candidate gets elected.
Somebody once said that a people gets the government it deserves. It’s true.
You are so right on all of that Walrus. We have become a soft people and that includes our brains. People vote by sound bite and it includes the younger and older generations!
I guess I am in a minority by investigating the person who I honor with my vote. I don’t listen to just what they say, I read how they voted or where they donations come from or what lobbyists they are talking to. I take the time to search and research and that is what makes me different as a voter today. I bother to take the time....I can give up 30 minutes a day for such an important cause....many before me gave up more and to disgrace their memory by taking light of my vote is a damn shame!!!
During other eras in history, a policy-wonk type of figurehead can successfully preside over the processes that are necessary to keep a country running, because the relatively minor ups and downs are not drastically changing the overall direction of the nation.
Look at all the success Republicans had running Progressive Liberal Republicans against FDR in 1932, 1936, 1940, and 1944.
Not a single one of these people could articulate a Constitutional conservative vision for the USA, and none of them even tried.
All four of them were slightly less socialist than FDR, and differed from FDR only on their pro-business angle (exactly like the RINOs of today).
And they all lost to the second worst communist president the USA ever had.
