National Leaders Expand Dialogue of Implementing Clean Energy Technology and Policy for a More Energy Efficient Nation

July 18, 2011

Washington, D.C. – In its fourth year, The National Clean Energy Summit will focus on America’s clean energy future with the convening of “The National Clean Energy Summit 4.0: The Future of Energy” to be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Aria Resort and Casino at CityCenter in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Co-sponsored by the Center for American Progress, the Clean Energy Project, MGM Resorts International, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), and University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV), this year’s National Clean Energy Summit will once again bring together veteran business executives, energy policy innovators, entrepreneurs, investors, and senior public officials from both parties, along with citizens and students to discuss the future of our nation’s energy in an effort to help speed adoption of better energy policy and make our nation more competitive in the global clean energy economy.

“Nevada is proud to host the fourth annual National Clean Energy Summit, an important opportunity for national and state leaders to see firsthand how Nevada is a leader in building a 21st century clean energy future that can be emulated across the country,” said Reid. “By capitalizing on our state’s vast renewable resources like wind, solar, and geothermal energy, we are creating good paying jobs, reducing our dependence on oil, lowering energy costs for consumers, and diversifying our economy to promote growth.“

Since 2008, these dynamic summits have become one of the country’s most visible and influential gatherings of leaders and creative policymakers who are helping to bring about the transformation to a clean energy economy.

“Investments in clean energy have created tens of thousands of jobs in the midst of an economic downturn,” noted John Podesta, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress. “We can have a brighter economic and energy future if we continue and expand investments in clean technologies. These investments are important to spur industry here and reduce pollution—and they are essential to keep pace with China, Germany, and our other economic competitors."

“National Clean Energy Summit 4.0: The Future of Energy” will chart a path to a clean energy future. Smart investments in electricity production and delivery, vehicles and the transportation system, energy efficient buildings and homes, and new clean energy sources will lead to long-term savings, global economic competitiveness, and a diverse, thriving economy with high employment.

“This year, the summit will be comprised of three panel discussions on topics that are integral to the development of a robust clean energy economy,” said Rose McKinney James, Clean Energy Project board member. “The focuses will be on the future of energy for the consumer, regional efforts to harness and transport energy in the West, and energy security and independence.”

Notable speakers at the summit include U.S. Senator Harry Reid, Center for American Progress President and CEO John Podesta, Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International Jim Murren, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, California Governor Jerry Brown, and Washington Governor Christine Gregoire.

I think the air conditioning for the event should be run entirely on green energy.

Somehow, I have a bit of difficulty wrapping my arms around this - One of the filthiest politicians of our time hosting a national clean energy summit. What’s he going to talk about - crispy new walkin’ around money?

“Clean energy” means totally insufficient energy to run the country.

Probably going to brag about his efforts (with the mafia) to tie up the opening of virtually completed Yucca Mountain for safe nuclear waste storage, that would allow expansion of the nuclear power industry

Of course it fails to mention that the 10,000 jobs created (I want to see how they came to that exact number) are in China.

"Clean Energy" is anything except dirty coal.

The Clean Energy legislation presently in Senate Committee requires that by 2035 only 20% of electricity can be generated using dirty coal.

Nat Gas, nukes, renewables, biomass, clean coal are clean.
