Unshackle The Job Creators
IBD Editorials ^ | July 14, 2011 | JOHN A. ALLISON

As the jobless rate threatens to invade double-digit territory, people are understandably demanding answers to urgent questions: What's the cure? What will it take to generate more jobs for Americans?

As a longtime banking CEO, I know first-hand and with certainty how jobs are created — and it's not by government bureaucrats waving magic wands. Jobs are created by private businesses, from the large multinational corporation down to the sole proprietor who mows grass and spreads mulch.

Jobs are created so businesses can develop new products and services — and improve existing ones — and expand into new markets — and increase the quantities produced, and the efficiency of that production.

In today's economy, entrepreneurs and business leaders are eager to ramp up production, launch new products, open new branches and create new jobs. But what's standing in the way of translating that eagerness into paychecks? Government policies that undermine the rule of law, create destructive boom-and-bust cycles, and generate massive deficits.

Under the rule of law, the legal system specifically defines unlawful behavior and gives fair warning of the punishment for wrongdoing. Instead, we suffer under the rule of regulators.

Every year, Congress and state legislatures concoct new schemes to clamp down on business freedom. Using real wrongdoers as a pretext, they declare the entire business world guilty without a trial and pass a sentence of perpetual supervision by an army of bureaucrats who halt progress until they get around to doling out licenses, permits, inspections and new rules.

The result is that businessmen live in perpetual fear of government reprisals

The regulatory agencies treat us like children unable to protect ourselves when all they’re really protecting is their personal gravy train (democrats)

As a great lakes resident the desire to protect the great lakes is almost a natural part of my genetic make up but I want the great lakes directional drilling ban dropped. We can keep an eye on things all by ourselves.

Here is the problem: Liberals will not give up on Keynesian economic theories at best, and flat out socialistic planned economies at worst.

I think that is the reason Obama is bound and determined not to go for a temporary deal or to cave. Like health care, they see this as their chance to change things forever, before conservatives can muster the resources to battle popular indifference.

We all know what works, in one sentence: Make industry profitable by decreasing taxes and regulation to get tax-paying people back to work, and spend less than you collect.

The problem is, liberals just don't get it. They think they can get eggs from that goose forever.

Good essay and this is so true:

businesses can develop new products and services — and improve existing ones — and expand into new markets — and increase the quantities produced, and the efficiency of that production.

In fact, even given the spoiled overfed US society existing within a leaner hungrier harder working world, this is the one great advantage the US had, the imaginative, rewarding production of free enterprise. This is totally opposite to employing the energy of youth for "cultural revolution", or "brown shirt" government extortion of leftism; it is rather the exuberant individual fulfillment of creative endeavor and reward. What a wondrous privilege for we who had grown up in that atmosphere; and what an ineffable tragedy for those youth of today who are deprived of such.

When one comes to understand this and then simultaneously considers a Barack Obama, or Harry Reid, or Hillary CLinton, or Chuck Schumer, people who have produced absolutely nothing except the sad desire to impose their questionable value judgments by police authority. Personally I see it as a female sickness (neither BO nor Bill Clinton had responsible fathers), but maybe Sarah can prove me wrong. I hope so.

I would call it a circle jerk, except that is a very benign application of that description.

“Unshackle The Job Creators”

Oh come on!! We are talking about the democtate party. Once the party of slavery ALWAYS the party of slavery. The the only difference is that they have discovered that they can not enslave one race of people it must be classes. They have even gone so far as to create “death panels” slavery is not enough they now need to murder people.

Most of the socialist/communists rulers are responsible for millions and millions of innocent citizens deaths. It is the only way to impose their "utopia" when the citizens fight back.

In our country? A total of 40 Million innocent babies lives have been snuffed out by democrat party policies and they are not done yet.
