Top Democrats: McConnell’s proposal is now our Plan B (Republican leaders are an emabarassment)

If they’re serious, i.e. this isn’t some form of kabuki, then they’re awfully, awfully stupid to be chattering about it. No matter how much they sweeten the deal, the more the plan reeks of Democratic approval, the harder it’ll be to get through the House.

Steve Hayes on Fox tonight said McConnell’s gambit was way too early and has frozen the talks.

I hope you are referring to "hotair.com" because TWO DAYS AGO I dealt with the proposal historically. What McConnell suggested as a last ditch effort has already been found UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

It is little different, in principle, from both Reagan's Line Item Veto and Nixon's Sequestration.

Given the fact the "hotair.com" response seemed to be so out of date (2 days is a lot of time on the internet) I checked and it says they pumped that BS out at 6:30 PM today.

Hunh!

Is this what that blog thinks is news ~ 2 days and 3 trillion dollars short ~ ?

And you? Didn't you check to see if we'd already pummeled this particular non-story into the ground?

Because Hayes doesn't get it. McConnell is offering an increase, IF THE PRESIDENT LAYS OUT THE SPENDING CUTS.

The initial legislation would authorize the President to submit a request to Congress asking to increase the debt limit by $700 billion, and would require submission of a plan to reduce spending by a greater amount.
Upon receipt of the President’s request, the debt limit would be provisionally increased by $100 billion to provide breathing room and avert an August 2nd default.
The House and Senate would have 15 days to disapprove of the request.
Within three days of the President’s request, it would be in order for the House and Senate to introduce a joint resolution disapproving of the President’s request.

Under expedited consideration of the Resolution of Disapproval, the resolution would be placed directly on the Senate calendar; the Motion to Proceed to the resolution would be privileged; there would be 10 hours of debate and passage would require a simple majority.
If either chamber defeats the resolution, the remaining $600 billion increase would be allowed.
If both chambers pass the resolution, it would be sent to the President for a veto or signature.
If vetoed, debate on an override would be limited to one hour.
If the veto is overridden (which would require a 2/3 vote) in both chambers, then the request would be denied and the provisional $100 billion increase revoked.
If the veto is sustained in either chamber, the remaining $600 billion increase would be allowed.
For the second and third requests in fall 2011 and summer 2012, the President could request an increase of the debt limit by $900 billion once the Treasury Department determines that the country is within $100 billion of the debt limit. The President would also be required to submit a plan to reduce spending by a greater amount.. Each of these subsequent requests would be subject to the same disapproval process outlined above.

For those of you that can't read it says....

Sure, you can have it. Put it in writing and OWN it.

What does the Constitution have to do with what goes on in DC?

We better Hunker down for a 5 year fight. This is going to get Bumpy. The RINOS may have just given Obama another term. Especially if they nominate Romney or Jeb Bush. Maybe we can try to get the House and take the leadership from the RINOS. But it is gonna be a long haul and we are stuck with Obamacare. UGGGHHHH!

This isn’t a game. This is about cutting spending. Not over ten years, but in 2012. So you’re good with the president deciding what gets cut when? What’s the point of having a congress? Are you a McConnell staffer?

Charles Lane: Republicans are divided on debt ceiling. Demint doesn’t like MCConnell; Boehner disagrees with Cantor.

Having an R after your name doesn’t mean something good any longer. There is no Democrat party. There is no Republican party. There are the people who voted for Obama, the “useful idiots” who have no idea what life under Communism is like.

Google “The Grinding of America”. Watch the trailer then order copies of the DVD to show to and give to your friends and families. That should educate the naive people who have no idea the treachery they aare playing with!

Watch this bone chilling video and then forward to everyone you know.

Take your RINO garbage and childish insults to another site. We can read it, and we don’t like it.

I`d like to see Marco Rubio and Rand Paul round up McConnell and sequester him behind locked doors until this is over. McConnell has proved to be of no use to the conservative cause whatsoever.

That is their only plan...because they do not have an alternative.

Except, well, the plan has to: a) PASS and b) WORK.

The only way a McConnell plan could even have a CHANCE of passing the House, IMO, is if the cuts ARE MANDATORY...and when McConnell said the proposed cuts WERE NOT mandatory, it doomed his idea.

ALSO: there is a big problem with giving the executive TOO MUCH POWER to determine what stays in the budget and what doesn’t. The executive may have SOME say, but the McConnell plan basically gives the executive branch (almost) a blank check.
