I don’t see how investigating invasions of privacy by hacking phones is an attack on the First Amendment.

If it was at all likely there was any truth to it. Murdoch (who also owns Fox IIRC) should know better.

It appears that somebody DID hack phones, at least in Britain. And those people worked for a News Corp publication. And such an activity is a crime and is liable for prosecution.

Trying to dump all this personally into the lap of Rupert Murdoch is where it gets nakedly political.

My thoughts exactly. I have no idea why so many people on FR worship Fox News. If Rupert Murdoch's people were hacking 9/11 victims' families and heads of state then Rupert Murdoch's people need to go to prison for a long time. Who cares if it's Fox news or CNN, it's a massive invasion of privacy and has nothing to do with free speech.

“I don’t see how investigating invasions of privacy by hacking phones is an attack on the First Amendment.”

Apparently, there are those here who believe that the First Amendment permits reporters to break into your home, your email, your voice mail and your medical records.

As I recall, some jerk is sitting in prison for hacking Sarah Palin’s email account, but now people wish to condone the hacking of 9/12 Victim’s voice mails.

Then why didn't we see an FBI investigation of the NY Times when it disclosed information gotten by illicit means?

I have no trouble with the FBI investigating criminal activity.

I DO have trouble with Jay Rockefeller leading a lynch mob.
