WASHINGTON (AP) — Several members of Congress called Thursday for a presidential commission to study the formation of a "melting pot museum" in Washington to tell the history of immigration and migration that formed the nation.

Democratic Virginia Rep. Jim Moran introduced legislation Thursday that calls for studying the creation of a National Museum of the American People without any federal taxpayer funds. The bill had 11 other co-sponsors.

"The people of the United States do not have a comprehensive and accurate picture of all the peoples who created and continue to build the nation," the bill says.

He should first learn what “melting pot” means. A melting pot is not everyone speaking their own language, their own cultures, their own values. A Melting pot is one language to unify a nation, American values, American traditions. The moron hasn’t a clue what a “melting pot” is or what the founders intended it to mean......His melting pot is the complete opposite.

If one were to go by the usual impression after visiting almost any large American city, I think the term Chamber Pot would be more appropriate.

Yeah, melting pot. All the different nationalities met, got to know one another, hit it off and became fast friends*, so that today NYC is just one big bowl of yummy, rainbow stew.

Now wait a minute, we still have gold in Ft. Knox, I hope.

It’s be easier if they updated the Smithsonian, besides,

Don’t they already have displays elsewhere they could tamper and meddle with?

The museum will probably have sections for each country the immigrants come from, but not a US section.

“The people of the United States do not have a comprehensive and accurate picture of all the peoples who created and continue to build the nation,” the bill says.

Everyone (or their ancestors) here came, initially, from another country, to escape the very bastards that try to rule over us NOW. WE built this great country. But...most of them came here LEGALLY. (they’re talking to their lib base, who don’t know any better.)

“Go sell “crazy” someplace else.....we’re all filled up here.”

Isn't this what schools are supposed to cover?

Since the presidents and congress have been gleefully seizing State lands out west, you would think that by now, they would have eminent domain taken all of the District of Columbia and made it a federal reservation.

It would solve myriad problems. First of all, it would get rid of the filthy slum and the filthy slum dwellers. That land could be bulldozed, then rebuilt from below the ground up with modern and easy to maintain infrastructure, and providing both vast amount of office space instead of the cramped and decaying quarters used today, and a huge amount of park space, useful for both memorials and public assemblies.

All but RESTRICTED VIP transport (not making the mistake of Woodrow Wilson, who gave every bureaucrat their own luxury railroad car and created a massive rail jam that took years to undo), embassy vehicles and delivery and emergency vehicles would be prohibited.

Instead, parking would be outside the city, and everyone comes or goes in public transport: rail and buses. Long stretches of sidewalk popular for pedestrians could be made into covered “automatic sidewalk” as is used today in major airport concourses. This moves a lot of people very quickly.

This would actually move far more people into and out of the city every day than get penetrate the terrible traffic jams.

All told, the city would be much cleaner and more pleasant, with far less street crime, though the same amount of white collar and bureaucratic crime. All business, including the Watergate hotel complex, would be handled by concessions.

I missed the point completely. The point being that it’s like the people running the boat are trying to put together a shuffleboard tournament, as the stern slowly rises to the sky.

With the major portion of the museum dedicated to Mexicans and homosexuals.

The whole country was a memorial to our forebears and the “melting pot”.

Then liberals decided to take the melting pot off the heat and turn us into the North American Balkans.

Now we are no longer a nation of people with a common interest. They have divided us into hundreds of special interest groups living on the same patch of earth while scrambling for advantage over others.

We have far too many hyphenated-Americans whose first loyalty is to their skin color, race or country of origin and far too few whose loyalty is to America and the US Constitution.

What we have here is not a “melting pot” - but what the American WWII Prisoners called a “Honey Pot”

A Honey Pot was a portable pot or just a hole where one would go to the bathroom. Bees and flies flew around (and in) them. The prisoners would capture the bugs and rinse them in water or their own urine and eat them to get the protein they needed to live on.
