LONDON (AP) — Britain's long-running phone hacking scandal has taken a sickening twist, with claims that a tabloid newspaper hacked into the phone mail of an abducted teenage girl and may have hampered the police investigation into her disappearance.

>

The newspaper is now accused of hacking into Dowler's voicemail and deleting several messages on her cell phone, giving her parents false hope that she was alive as well as potentially damaging the police effort to find her.

Rupert Murdoch ought to clean house.

Brit tabloids make the American versions look shy and retiring.

The chap that actually did the hacking now says:

“I know I have brought the vilification I am experiencing upon myself, but I do ask the media to leave my family and my children, who are all blameless, alone.”

See any irony there, scumbag? Those poor parents, thinking that their daughter might still have been alive because someone was accessing her voicemail.

Seen the top story on Drudge? This thing is blowing up. How long before the American LSM connects Fox News and gives the White House war-on-Fox a new weapon?

Unfortunate, especially since, except for the unsavory aspect of it, this really is just the 21st century version of the press going through trashcans. Anonymous does stuff like this on a daily basis just for kicks.

Not to excuse it, just saying "hacking" isn't the right word. I wonder if this is even illegal here.

I’m not sure what else you can call it, when a journalist uses a PIN to illegally access someone else’s voice mail system in order to listen to their messages - very often before the owner has accessed them themselves!
