The President's Loophole Lie
IBD Editorials ^ | June 30, 2011 | Staff

Public Record: That jet-tax loophole derided by the president is one he himself proposed as part of the stimulus approved by a Democratic Congress. Does the left teleprompter know what the right teleprompter is saying?

Demagoguery was redefined at Wednesday's news conference, when President Obama mentioned corporate jets and their owners no fewer than six times as an example of how the rich should pay more taxes, lest necessary things such as food safety face a budget ax.

"I think it's only fair to ask an oil company or a corporate jet owner that has done so well to give up that tax break that no one else enjoys," the president stated to an oblivious White House press corps. The "NBC Nightly News" dutifully repeated the charge twice in its coverage. For media obsessed with gaffes by GOP candidates, real and imagined, the hypocrisy is mind-boggling.

As Rob Bluey of the Heritage Foundation points out, the so-called loophole — the incentive — first used to help plane-makers recover from the 2001 terror attacks, was included as part of the president's own stimulus package, designed to save or create jobs in the aircraft manufacturing industry.

Bluey notes that U.S. companies such as Cessna and Gulfstream have facilities that help build these corporate jets in 15 states. The tax incentive allows depreciation over five years for business jets as opposed to the seven for commercial aircraft. It was included in the stimulus as a means to spur economic activity by encouraging purchases of large manufactured goods.

As in oil and other industries, this depreciation allowance is designed to encourage investment and production in industries where the U.S. needs to compete in an increasingly competitive and troubled global economy.

Do not be surprised when the Liar-In-Chief is selected to lead us into another four more years of bliss.

The depreciation allowance bastardized by the speech applies to purchases of all capital goods. To discriminate against jets and related operational expense is petty.

It is also trash talk by a braggart loser who lacks the power to do any thing about it.

The speech is evidence the man is through. He can issue executive orders that can be disregarded and fought in court till there is a new President.

Obama is slimmer and grayer....... the job is killing him

I think people who got rich by putting their names on the books other people wrote should cough up a bundle.

in large part because the GOP fights like little girls and instead of beating zero over the head with it, they will just let it lie...

This is another instance where it seems like Obama didn’t read his own massive bill that he was so much into advocating for. This and the Obamacare waivers......and people like him wonder why people like us wouldn’t mind much, much smaller bills.

Not to mention that “corporate jet owner” is an oxymoron. If it’s a corporate jet, it’s owned by a corporation.

I saw part of Zero’s press conference. His teleprompter must have been on the fritz. He stumbled along and looked like he was going to break down and cry. He appeared to be an 8 year old that was denied a toy.

Personally, I think Dick Obama was stoned out of his mind for that speech. “Maybe a little blow when you can afford it.”

As opposed to Zero’s corporate 747; it’s owned by the taxpayers!

I heard just a little bit of his presser. He sounded like a total pu$$y. Not like someone in control.

His voice went up in pitch, like a little kid whinning that "he touched me!" Versus the corporate CEO whose voice lowers when he warns people that heads are going to roll.

This guys entire presentation was a loser. He's TRYING to appear cool and in control, but whats cool and tough to an 8th grader, is much different to a mature, experienced adult. This guy has no clue about reality, only his idealism. And that keeps failing, and he has no way of coping.

He sounds like the little kid in the school yard, who's confronted, and so TRIES to talk tough, but is on the verge of running home, crying.
