U.S. Gave $1.3 Billion to N.Korea Since 1995
U.S. aid to North Korea over the last 15 years totaled more than US$1.3 billion, according to official figures. The U.S. Congressional Research Service in a report Sunday said Washington provided $1.31 billion worth of food, energy and medical aid to North Korea since 1995, when the Geneva accords on the dismantlement of the North's nuclear weapons was signed.
North Korea has continued to develop nuclear arms, but U.S. aid to North Korea continued every year except 2006, when the North conducted its first nuclear test. Even last year, when UN and U.S. sanctions coincided, Washington still gave $600,000 worth of medicine to North Korea to help flood victims.
Humanitarian food aid accounted for the largest portion of $781.5 million or 2.26 million tons, though this was halted in March 2009. The U.S. also provided $146 million worth of heavy oil under agreements reached in six-party denuclearization talks, as well as $437 million related to the abortive construction of a light-water nuclear reactor under the now defunct Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization. It gave another $10 million worth of medicine and other daily necessities.
The CRS said that from 1995 to 2009, the international community as a whole gave 12 million tons of food aid to North Korea. China accounted for 26.9 percent, South Korea for 26.5 percent, the U.S. for 17.5 percent and Japan for 10.7 percent, and together they made up more than 80 percent. englishnews@chosun.com / Jun. 28, 2011 11:27 KST

Go USA!!
Well we now know what a half ass nuke program runs these days. If there was an army just across the border from mine, thousands of miles from home, that trained to kill me every day for 50+ years, supports a regime who’s only purpose for life of its citizens was to kill me, and is building nukes to kill me, I might just let ‘em starve. When they all get hungry enough they’ll kick that midget out or we’d fight some realy skinny Koreans.
As a matter of fact, we could have given them 1.3 billion in real dollars and it wouldn't have made much difference as the the real greenback is worth about the same as a superbill; zip!
Some twenty or so years ago I was given a real Mexican, or “Spanish”, dollar, also known as a silver 8 reale piece, by a friend. This coin was minted in 1838 by a small Spanish mint on the West coast of Mexico with total mintage of only 50,000. Survival rate has been pretty thin and at that time the numistic value of the coin was about $360.00. The other day I received quote for the same coin of $1,850.00! Times are sure peculiar.
It is also true that some rice given to N. Korea was sold in international market in exchange for other cheaper grains. Ordinary N. Korean people ate these cheap stuff, if they could not buy expensive rice high officials or his agents were selling at the market.
DEFUND socialist collectives, foreign and domestic.
It drives me crazy to know we send money to any antagonist. Let the bastids starve!
