I'm a failure, LOL.
In other words, you can’t be bought.
You’re right, what good are you as a politician?
I was reading in the FT today about corruption and its effect on economic growth in African countries.
One company owner located somewhere in West Africa, can’t remember the country specifically, but it was Gabon I think, told about how a competitor paid off a politician to make trouble for them a few months back. Just as the assembled forum on the topic moved to commisserate, he grimmed, slammed is hand down on the table and said, “It was no trouble, we bought ourself a BIGGER politician!” and proceded to laugh his ass off.
Unless you can be bought, and stay bought, you are thoroughly worthless as a politician.
Congratulations.
One more anecdote: Recently Jim Tressel, the coach of Ohio State resigned amid almost 10 years of complete ethical breakdown at Ohio State. Just read an SI article about it. It began when he was coach at Youngstown State, and continued through until a few days ago.
This asshat walked around like an unordained priest and father figure. He had a jar that people would put psalms in on his desk. While he was turning a blind eye to all this ethical impropriety, he was teaching classes on coaching and ethics at OSU.
His nickname on campus?
The Senator.
Pretty aptly named in light of all to recent events.
