OH Man, somehow I got it in my head that it was the 15th. So now I have two, must attend events the same day. The other is a meeting of my AF Reserve group.. in Georgetown, the first such meeting outside the Dallas area. If it was in Dallas, I could slip away for a couple hours. But this one was put on mainly for those of us who live well south of Dallas, Central and South Central Texas. But now I have to choose. My saying that this event was the 15th helped set the date for the other one.

Oh Woe Is Me.

Maybe my wife is right, I’m going senile.

tell everyone you moved it up to June - we sure could use some rain!

It's now mid September, and we need the rain even worse.

But looks like this year we might have to worry about fire, and maybe open burning/outdoor cooking bans. Already in place here in central Texas.

Who would have thought, in mid June when I posted, that we still wouldn’t have had rain?!

Just under 6 week ping!

FYI - for those that were at the first shoot, that park is now on fire. Go here ~ http://blog.chron.com/newswatch/2011/09/fire-breaks-out-near-george-bush-park/ ~ to read about the fire.
Hopefully we will get some rain between now & then so that cpdiii can still cook a great lunch.

Wow...it’s quite a large fire. Prayers that they get it out soon. The video I watched showed lots of manpower out there trying to do their best.

Can’t believe it’s so close...am really getting excited. Hope there has been some rain or blowing up tannerite might be a bit more excitement than was planned! LOL!

What a difference a couple of years makes. And remember how flooded the river was in New Braunfels last year! Sheesh!

It's about five or six miles from me. I can see it verey clearly from my patio.

It doesn't look as bad as it did this afternoon.

Hope the wind keeps it away from you and that they have it out soon. The firefighters in Texas are just about at the limit of their endurance this year. :(

We even had a small fire between where I live and where I work. Thank God it was out very soon! Not another big one that threatened one of the cities like we had in May or June.

LOL! I wish there was a way. I’ll bet Pennsylvania and Vermont would share, too!

You can count me in for three. I’m only about 35 miles from there. A nice easy drive.

So true. They're doing aerial water drops on it now...I'm watching (sort of fascinated.) I think they started doing that because the wind picked up some.

Yes, thank God! Isn't your work fairly close to where you live, meaning the fire was close to both places?

I've got lots of family there, too and so enjoyed the rain there when I was visiting a couple of months ago.

How I wish we could take you up on that offer! :)

Yes, they are about 18 miles apart and the fire was 1/2 way between. I could see the smoke on my drive home and wondered if it was fire or some of the incredible dust devils we’ve had this summer.

I bet they would - I got off easy. Earthquake, hurricane, two tornadoes, that FREEK of a storm, LEE, that ironicaly, toppled Lee’s Oak (now renamed the “Arlington Oak”, it was next to the Lee-Custis Mansion (now renamed Arlington Cemetary), but don’t get me started about federal tax laws, which is how they sole the Lee-Custis Estate in the middle of the Civil War - they passed a law that said Mars. Bobby Had to pay his property taxes in person, in occupied Arlington, or his home was forfiet for unpaid taxes...) ... where was I?

Oh yeah, I lost a few trees. No property damage.

I have NEVER looked at your tagline, not even when you were deployed.

LOL. Good one.

I remember back in ‘89/90’ when we deployed to NTC in California - back before Desert Storm. And I recall looking at a dry creek bed in the day, saying, “It’s just right over there a short ways.”

When nightfall came, I decided to go take a peek. I walked some distance, thinking, “I don’t remember it being this far.”

And I turned around to see my tank position and it was gone. Luckily, I walked right back up on it. It was my first lesson on how deceptive the desert could be.

Well, it’s not pretty in a good year, but this year it’s like living in hell itself. Ugh!

Sort of like the Sandbox....and nearly as hot this year! LOL!
