You’re trying to worry about something that isn’t going to gather even a tiny bit of traction.

She has to demonstrate why the decision to leave the position made sense. To me, it was very unusual if she had eyes on the white house, however, the reasoning around the endless frivolous lawsuits is very sound.

The same question can be asked of Romney. Why did he leave after a term? The answer is that he wouldn’t be reelected, so why then is he a viable candidate? I am certain Palin would have had little trouble with reelection should she have run again.

No candidate is perfect, and each has to prove themselves. I agree, Cheney is most impressive in interviews. At the same time, I wonder if he would ever have been electible from a charisma perspective. He certainly would have had my vote at anytime.

If you had followed the news when she "quit," you'd know that she only did so to spare Alaskan taxpayers the cost that resulted from her being the target of the Democrat attack machine. A series of frivolous "ethics" charges (for example, wearing a team jacket when she appeared at the start of Todd's effort in the Iron Dog sled race) were costing Alaskan taxpayers millions that could have been put to better use.

As far as austerity is concerned, do you know of anyone else who fought to reduce expenditures when they had a budget surplus? We don't even know if Chris Christie would have cut expenditures if he hadn't been faced with a massive deficit! Go to Youtube and listen to her 2007 "State of the State" to see a real leader in action - no teleprompter, minimal notes and a formidable grasp of the issues!

In any case, a second Obama term would weld the chains of communism to our limbs so firmly that only our great-grandchildren would have a hope of removing them - and then only at the cost of a great spilling of blood.

And out will come the same frivolous attack machine, except this time highlighting the same bogus attacks...

‘Sarah Palin resigned in disgrace when faced with 43 separate ethics violations, a corruption record never before matched in politics. Don't let her do the same to Washington DC. Help keep corrupt politicians out by voting down their ringleader, Sarah Palin.’

As I said, if she's given a pass in the primaries, and she wins them, might as well resign yourself to an Obama inauguration while blaming someone else for the loss.

Reading through this thread underscores the main problem within the Republican party right now IMO: we are eating our own. I tried to make an honest statement as to how I think the American public (who is not as well informed as we are here) views SP and I get attacked. Others here have suffered the same fate.
Just because we want it to be true does not make it true. I think she is extremely vulnerable on a lot of fronts- virtually no experience, media portrays her as dumb (surveys show that a significant number of Americans think she said “I can see Russia from my backyard” instead of Tina Fey), seems like a light weight on TV.
I do not think this is the real Sarah Palin. I like her- a lot. I think she would be a great POTUS. I just don't think she can overcome the onslaught of negative media coverage. I personally think she needs another position first a la Hillary (VP, cabinet secretary, etc).
Face it, folks, we are going to have to band together and vote for the Republican candidate no matter who it is. I held my nose and voted for McCain and may have to hold my nose again. We CANNOT have a 3rd party “purist” candidate just because we are not completely happy with the Republican candidate. The Dems do it- they band together no matter how much they dislike or disagree with the candidate and they win.

To get a Conservative nominated, Conservatives must coalesce behind conservatives.

Note - I said Conservatives, not Republicans. If they nominate anyone remotely McCain-like, say hello to 4 more years of Obama

Book it!

“America doesn't like quitters”

Well, if that's the deal breaker how did Obama manage? He has never held a job full term. In every case Obama has quit to seek a higher position.

As for Palin’s leaving Alaska, ask an Alaskan what they think. I have. We have some Alaskan friends here in Florida. They're appreciative to Palin for getting the state out of the massive assault on the office of the Governor.

Alaskans are no nonsense people. They're practical people. They understand that her ability to govern was virtually halted with red tape generated via ethics lawsuits. She handled the problem practically. She left. A smart move that served the people of Alaska well.

While I agree that Alaskans (those who are sane, not that I'm exactly convinced by the latest senate race there...) would understand and probably appreciate what she did, how do you imagine this would translate to the other 56 states as Obama might put it?

All they heard of the matter, for the most part, was whatever the MSM decided to spoon feed them, and what they heard was ‘ethics charges’, ‘misappropriation of funds’, ‘favoritism’ and ‘abuse of office.’ Most times, when they hear that down in the lower 48, it generally means someone’s guilty, and then in exchange for dropping charges, the person shuffles on off.

Not trying to derail the campaign, just think that if she comes through the primaries unscathed on the issue, it'll be front and center come the general. As for Obama’s qualifications, let's be honest, he was black, not Jessie Jackson, a Democrat, and could read a teleprompter. Those were all the qualifications required when a lot of voters were faced with the idea of Bill Clinton going back into the White House in the primaries, or John McPain’s brilliant strategy to attempt to lose each and every state in the general election.

And let me tell you, as bad as Obama is, having a liberal in the office that actually knew how to work the system and has a deep habit of supporting liberal causes in exchange for oohs and ahhs from the mainstream media? I'm very glad that McPain lost the election.

We'll see how it all plays out. Palin’s got a lot of skill in inspiring people, but up against the teleprompter in chief, I really think she needs much more in her pocket. I'd love to see her turn the campaign into a national referendum on a solid conservative budget, as I think it's a winning combination at the moment, but fear that it'll be inspiring vision vs inspiring vision, and no one’s going to try to actually give the voter a real choice this go around.

So do I. RINOs disgust me. The bottom line though has to be Obama out. The damage he’s done in just 2 1/2 years is nothing to what he’ll do with 4 more. I truly believe 4 more years of Obama means the end of America.

I don't disagree with you. I too am glad McCain didn't win. He was just a more incremental step toward socialism.

We'll have to see what happens with Palin. I'm not one looking for Reagan, nevertheless I see him in her. He raised his message above the MSM with only the Big 3 carrying the news. With new media I think Palin has a very good chance of getting America to hear her message.

My biggest worry for Palin is women. I know many conservative women, and they're split. Half of them love Sarah, half of them are wary. As a woman I can tell you that little girls are in many ways, large and small, conditioned by society to believe men can do things women can't. My parents taught me that unless his privates or physical strength were necessary for the job that wasn't the case, but my raising is an exception to the rule. American women have to get over their own misogyny

Women over 40 have elected every president since granted the right to vote. If the women will look past her genitals and listen to Palin the politician she'll win. If they won't she won't.

As for the teleprompter, he doesn't get one in a debate. Remember he wouldn't debate McCain on the trail? I'm sure that's why. I watched Sarah in the Alaska debates. She's very good on the fly, and will eat him for lunch if she gets the chance.

In the end 2012 is a no-brainer election. Obama must go. If we end up with a RINO we'll deal with that problem when it comes. And though Palin’s my preference the bottom line is anyone but Obama.

So do I, but if that problem arises we'll deal with it then. In the meantime I have two goals for 2012. First and foremost Obama Out. Secondly, and ideally, Palin In!

I can't agree with that. I'd rather have Obama win reelection than have a RINO at the helm. Obama is an ineffective leader, an uninspiring leader for his party. His punches are generally weak, and his ability to work with anyone other than his personal ego is near zero. Replace him with a RINO, and it would be as if the liberals won the election; party time for the RINO herd to go 'bipartisan' with the liberals and leave the conservatives out in the cold.

Yeah, some things would hurt, but the damage would be mitigated. Someone wants my vote this year, they can campaign for it, primaries and general, and if they don't, tough, might just vote for the other guy.

Okay, we'll have to agree to disagree.

I'll do what I can to oust any Socialist/Marxist/Communist from the US Government with both my voice and my vote. I'm very serious when I say that what we've seen under Obama up until now will be nothing compared to what we'll experience with 4 more years of this administration. Four years with ‘no consequence’ for Obama? That's not just uncomfortable, that's an ugly and dangerous picture for the Republic.

I understand the no-vote vote. I just don't believe we have that luxury this time out. I trust the American people not to nominate a RINO, but if they do I'll support them. If I don't support them I haven't done what will most likely be the most valuable thing I can do for my country. Stopping, (or at least retarding in the case of a RINO win), the current agenda.
