UTICA, NY - Herman Cain leads Chris Christie as the top choice of Republican primary voters in the race for the 2012 Presidential nomination. Among all voters, no one in a list of 13 possible GOP candidates leads President Barack Obama. However, less than half of voters (42%) say Obama deserves re-election.
The results of a new IBOPE Zogby Interactive poll, conducted from May 20-23, show Cain, a businessman and radio talk show host who drew attention at the first party Presidential debate early this month, as the choice of 19% of GOP primary voters. Christie, the New Jersey Governor who led in our four previous polls, is second with 16%, followed by Mitt Romney in third with 11%.
Romney is now seen as a more acceptable candidate to Republican voters than he was in our interactive poll conducted from May 6-9. Then, 27% of GOP primary voters said they would never vote for Romney compared to just 9% who say so now. Romney remains the candidate GOP voters believe most likely to be the nominee with 37%, and no one else gets more than 6%.
Christie does best in a match-up with Obama, but trails, 45%-44%. Obama leads both Romney and Tim Pawlenty by 45%-40%. Obama is ahead of Cain, 46%-38%.

Pawlenty’s connection to evangelicals is through his wife. He actually trashed his way past a real conservative, Brian Sullivan, when he was running for the gov nomination.
born December 13, 1945 in Memphis, TN (Meets the Jus Soli Requirement)
Parents were
Luther Cain Jr., born March 16, 1925 in TN, died March 29, 1982 in Atlanta, GA
Lenora Davis, born July 27, 1925 in GA, died August 20, 2005 in Atlanta, GA
Both parents were US Citizens at the time of his birth (Meets the Jus Sanguinis Requirement)
Herman Cain is a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN unlike Barry Soetoro aka Barack Hussein Obama.
At this point, with Romney and TPaw both declared and Palin trashed by the press, Mitt and Tim have all of a 4% advantage over Palin against Barry in the general. (And Barry the Incumbent can’t crack 50% against anyone.)
I see.
I don’t care for Romney either.
I like Cain, Bachmann, Palin, that guy from Texas (can’t remember his name - NOT RON PAUL).
I am particularly concerned about a Chris Christie run - as I believe him to be a candidate with problems on many levels.
But the most important thing is to pry that miserable misanthrope Marxist Muslim out of the Oval Office.
He is the most evil presence to ever sit in Washington and America couldn’t survive another four years of this King of Misrule.
Cain “only” down 8 while a virtual unknown is actually good.
And wasting your vote on a 3rd party accomplishes what? Other than split the anti-Obama vote and helping to make sure Hussein remains in office..
The 3rd party thing isn't going to work. There are always people around willing to waste their votes - sometimes lots of them (see Perot voters), but it never amounts to anything. We are a 2 party system. The Republican primary is your opportunity to lobby and fight for your preferred candidate(s). If you don't get your way, taking your ball and going home is just stupid and counter productive.
Sadly, a very skilled politician can overcome even the most awful political decisions. The more political skills one possesses, the more they can overcome bad policy.
He has a shattered economy to defend and the atrocious Obamacare with its waivers for his buddies.
He will blame Bush, blame Congress, blame, blame, blame. But he will do it in a skilled manner and fool a lot of people. He will not make many gaffes, he will not blunder through the debate, he will claim the Republicans want to destroy Medicare, etc. It will be very difficult to beat Hussein, and we aren't likely to do it what a guy with no political skills or experience.
Exactly how many great presidents have we had in the last half century? I count one. That's pathetic.
It's time to start looking for leaders outside of the politician/lawyer model.
Our founding fathers didn't envision career politicians. You were supposed to be a success in some other endeavor, then basically donate your time to politics and pay back society for your success. Now we have cradle-to-grave politicians, getting fat off the people. And you want to disqualify any leaders outside this model.
No thanks. I'll vote for a successful business man, an inventor, a physicist, a surgeon, etc if he stands for what I believe.
I don't care if he has no experience kissing ass, fundraising and deal-making at the lower levels of politics. People get an education in politics that way, but it's an education in how to screw the people and amass power/wealth for themselves.
If I want that, I'll vote Romney.
Well, of course not. Everyone pulls for his or her favorite. That will change when there's one, not 13, candidates to poll against Obama.
Geesh. Typical spin. Make it look like the poll shows that because Obama is so popular and the GOP candidate(s)are so weak.
Sure, your welcome to do that, but if not enough other people will do the same what does that get you? Being right on the issues is simply not enough.
And your making it sound like it's only recently that a candidate had to also be a good politician to win. Aside from a couple generals that won wars, all of our Presidents have won elections prior to winning the White House. It just isn't enough to be right on the issues, you have to be able to translate that into folks trusting and believing enough in you to cast their ballot on your behalf. You not only have to be right, you need to be able to persuade people to your point of view. That is a skill that most people simply do not have. People that are good at this have a big advantage in politics.
It's what makes me vote for someone, along with their past accomplishments. What else is there to base ones vote on? Appearance? Slick talk? Promises?
Who are you supporting, Longbow?
I don’t see a *like* button.
Fix it peoples!
Palin. Maybe Bachmann if Palin doesn't run. I could perhaps settle for someone like Pawlenty if Palin doesn't run and Bachmann isn't competitive in the race. I think another great candidate could be Paul Ryan, but it doesn't look like he will run either.
If 10% unemployment and $4-5 gas isn't enough to landslide the Marxist, this country is doomed.
So you’d rather support someone who isn’t running than someone who is.
I like Palin, but Herman’s announced. If she does announce she’s running, that’s one thing but I can’t back her over someone who I agree with on all the big issues who’s put his skin in the game so to speak.
Hoover and Taft did not serve in the military, nor did they hold elective office before being President.
