Gingrich Backs Obamacare's Individual Mandate Requiring Health Insurance (Newt praises Romneycare)
NBC Meet the Press via Newsmax ^ | 2011-05-15 | Tim Collie

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Sunday that he strongly supports a federal mandate requiring citizens to buy health insurance – a position that has been rejected by many Republicans, including several who likely will be running against him for the Republican presidential nomination.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Gingrich told host David Gregory that he continues to advocate for a plan he first called for in the early 1990s as a Congressman, which requires every uninsured citizen to purchase or acquire health insurance.

Gregory asked Gingrich if he would criticize GOP presidential rival Mitt Romney, whose "Romneycare" health program enacted during his time as Governor in Massachusetts mandated that all uninsured purchase health insurance.

Gingrich replied he would not make it an issue in the campaign and said he agreed with key aspects of Romneycare.

"I agree that all of us have a responsibility to pay--help pay for health care," Gingrich said, adding, "I've said consistently we ought to have some requirement that you either have health insurance or you post a bond ..."

Newt declared himself as a candidate for the Repoodlecan Party.

Sure wasn’t Republican.

Folks, it appears that the Republican Party has imploded with respect to the 2012 elections.

Romney...is...well, the father of Romneycare, the predecessor of Obamacare.

Palin shilled for McCain and has a dubious stance on amnesty.

Paul has made a fool out of himself by suggesting that the U.S. shouldn’t have assassinated Osama.

Gingrich supports Romneycare and cap-and-tax.

DeMint refuses to back away from Romney.

Shall I continue?

I mean, seriously, the field of Republican candidates is so far nothing more than a sick joke, and unless a dark horse (and I’m not talking about Bachmann here) emerges, I think we’re looking at four more years of Obama, largely thanks to Republican incompetence and ineptitude.

Wave Bye Bye Newt!!!

Your presidential aspirations just boarded a greyhound headed for retirement in Arizona...next door to the McCains.

So, if your current wife turns up defective...there's always Meghan...

With Pelosi on one side and Dede (NY23) on the other. He should run on the ‘rat ticket - a good chance of winning as their candidate. Then SARAH will chew him up and spit him out.

Just when I thought Newt might be the answer...

This must be the issue he makes to ensure he is unelectable.

I think the Republicans want to take a dive in 2012 just as they did in 2008. That way, they can Monday morning quarterback instead of taking true responsibility for the mess we're in.

I recently posted that Newt didn’t seem that bad. I take that back, seeing this. Anyone who wipes his or her ass with the US Constitution by being in favor of the individual mandate won’t get my vote.

Newt has lost my support. I do not trust him, no matter how he tries to weasel out of his statements here.

Candidates that will not get my support period, so far! I do not trust them!

Gingrich

Romney

Pelosi put earwigs in his head when he coddled up to her on the Group-W sofa.

Newt ended his chances the same day he declared. Now that’s a first.

Surely you aren't still harping on the McCain nonsense. Any conservative (and others) see /understand her loyalty. So you still harping on it says more about who/what you are then who/what SARAH is.

Not hard to tell which side of the fence they are on and it’s unfortunately not ours.

The arrogance of these men is sad.

Good point but Newt made himself clear awhile back saying ‘The Reagan Era is over’, being a global warming believer and his undying support for the liberal Dede (NY23) who ended up throwing her support behind the rat in the race and against the conservative.

It's not nonsense - she went to Arizona to shill for a full-on leftist Obama lap dog and defend him on immigration.

I for one am not surprised as he has sided with the other side numerous times before & is a classic RINO & I hope the Republicans will not make him the nominee for President.
