Speaking of rain, this little area of Northeast India gets more than its fair share of rain. One day many years ago this area received 1.56 meters of rain...in one day. Average annual rainfall is 11.5 meters. Cherapunji has the dubious distinction as being the wettest place on Earth.

“In the US a jockey makes money from both the mount fee and the purse. Depending on where a jockey is riding mount fees can range from $25-$75. The real money is in the purse, that is the money that the horses are racing for. In general a purse is divided among the first 5 finishers in a race, with 60% going to first 20% to second, 10% to third 7.5% to fourth and 2.5% to fifth. Of this purse money the jockey and trainer usually receive 10%. So in the case of the Kentucky Derby which has a $2 million purse the winners share is $1,200,000, so of this the jockey would receive $120,000.”
