WASHINGTON – Osama bin Laden, the glowering mastermind behind the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks that murdered thousands of Americans, was killed in an operation led by the United States, President Barack Obama said Sunday.

"Justice has been done," said the president in a dramatic late-night announcement at the White House.

A small team of Americans killed bin Laden in a firefight Sunday at a compound in Pakistan, the president said, and took custody of his remains. American officials said they were being handled in accordance with Islamic tradition.

Hi, just saw this AP piece that says Osama bin Laden’s remains are being handled by the Obama administration according to Islamic tradition. They are giving OBL’s body respect. Yikes!!!

Obama will be celebrated and revered in the MSM for the next few weeks. Chris Mathews will get tingles in many many places as they praise Obama for getting Bin Laden.

A p*ssing contest will be set up, in which the liberals say that Bush wasn’t able to get Bin Laden, but that Obama was able to do so.

The MSM may say that this event will be Obama’s “Oklahoma City” moment. They tried hard to make Tucson his Oklahoma City but it didn’t work out as planned.

I wonder if Obama gets a bounce in the polls? We’ll see.

But having said that, of course I’m happy Bin Laden is dead. I hope he’s learning his eternal fate right about now,and that fate is not 72 virgins waiting for him.

They are treading lightly here, thats why the said that.

We carried out a huge mission in Pakistan without their permission.

Pakistan is already ready to explode.

I am absolutely shocked that the Obama administration is according OBL's remains any degree of respect. I'm almost sick to my stomach at this news.

“We carried out a huge mission in Pakistan without their permission.”

That’s not what is being reported by the WH. They said they had the cooperation of Pakistan.

All I know is there comes a time when the feelings and sensibilities of the American people MUST come first. As someone who grew up in Jersey City and New York City, I sure as heck do not want OBL's remains treated with any kind of respect.

Like many here tonight, I also want to see photographic proof. If "Islamic tradition" supposedly prevents that, I don't give a flying fig. I want incontrovertible proof of OBL's death made public. Then yes, burn his carcass and toss his ashes into the deepest part of the Pacific Ocean.

Only after we began the operation. Any chance of leaking info to the ISI was a no go.

We basically had permission, to leave.

He will be washed according to islamic practice, buried within 24 hours, and wrapped in cloth.

Day-ummm. Who rammed the package of Jimmy Dean sausage up his balloon knot?

According to a FReeper, the CIA insisted that Obama sign a non-disclosure agreement to protect the SEAL’s involved in the raid. Obama didn’t want to sign it. General Petreus insisted and Obama relented. Gen. Patreus is protecting our SEALs from 0bama.

President Bush knew how to handle this sort of thing with the Islamocrazies.

Ooday and Kusay on display.

Very tasteful, very respectful. FU, you monsters!

I'm of two minds here.

First, I would like to see OBL's carcass strung up, head downward, on meathooks in a public square, and shot into ribbons using pig-fat dipped bullets, with the remaining shreds stomped into the dust and dirt by a herd of wild boars.

But on the other hand, that's the kind thing the evil savages who infest the Middle East would do. I would like to think that we more civilized people might well accord our enemies a measure of respect, because doing so proves that we are better than them.

Difficult call... the former is more soul-satisfying, while the latter takes the higher ground...

As much as it makes me sick that Usama bin Laden is being shown any respect, there might be an immediate need to stop a Jihadist retaliation on the US for Usama’s death. (By the way, didn’t media used to spell his name Osama? What gives with the sudden respelling??) Maybe reporting that the US is showing respect to Islam tradition is a way to win them over (but behind the scenes they are kicking his corpse).

You really expected something else? Sure, it would be fun to hear of him wrapped up in pig skin. But that was never in the cards. Right now, I’ll settle for him being dead. It’s good news. Go ahead and celebrate a little.

He sure did. That's exactly the kind of tasteful, respectful handling of OBL's corpse I want to see. Oh, and remember Saddam Hussein being hanged? Perfect justice.

I do not believe there is any way to influence what those insane maniacs do.

Whether we choose to respect or disrespect OBL's carcass, the Muslims will do what they always do -- riot, shoot, kill, etc. -- regardless.

Our decision should be based on what WE think is best, not on what the Muslim reaction might be.

This is pathetic and I am sick of kissing up to Muslims, of which our president is one. Muslim and Arab leaders all over the world are threatening the USA, and endorsing the slaughter of Christians and Jews on a daily basis. This is not an ending, this does not satisfy justice.

“Justice has been done.” That is the most ignorant statement of the day. This victory should be our rallying cry, “I have not yet begun to fight!”
