President Barrack Obama plans to visit Alabama on Friday to view the tornado destruction and meet with Gov. Robert Bentley, other state officials and victims of the Wednesday's storms.
Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said he could not confirm if Obama would visit Tuscaloosa, one of the hardest hit areas from Wednesday's deadly tornadoes.
The White House Press Office did not release the president's itinerary other than to confirm he will be in the state.
The press office said President Obama spoke Thursday morning with Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate about federal disaster relief efforts for areas affected by the devastating severe storms and tornadoes that have impacted Alabama, Mississippi and other states across the Southeast this week.

Glad he is going though. Alabama may have HUNDREDS dead. 660 in hospital with many critical and not expected to survive. 50+ bodies in the street east of Rosedale housing complex not added to confirmed death toll as of 1100hrs CST. Many reports of moans and screams in debris piles not yet reached by motorized vehicles hundreds of yards from trama/rescue stations. And this is just Tuscaloosa...horror stories in Birmingham and other towns on twitter and radio chatter.
Prayers for Alabama today and two Freeprs who lost loved ones in the recent storms.
There must be a good golf course in Alabama.
He’s going to survey all the damage to the golf courses.
Politicians need to stay away from such disasters as all they can do is get in the way and consume resources that could otherwise be used to help the local residents.
I’m detecting a trend, here.
Prayers for Alabama and Freepers.
Is the lop-eared muslim flying under his own power or is he using a carpet?
He doesn’t want to be accused of fundraising while yet another red state suffers from a natural emergency.
He doesn’t give a damn if the entire state blows away. But he *hates* bad press. Its his Achilles heel.
“Southern man don’t need him around, anyhow”
True, but it's a "Damned if you do, damned if you don't" thing.
Can’t fault him this time. We have six dead, so far, in Greene Co. Tn where our home is. It’s one of the things our CIC is supposed to do. No doubt he’d rather not go, but politically he has to.
I guess “more dead conservatives” wasn’t selling as a political slogan.
amen
“There must be a good golf course in Alabama.”
You’ve never heard of the “Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail?”
I hope the O hasn’t or he might stay awhile.
How did he break away from the campaign trail? New chief of staff told him he needed a I care photo op?
He only knows one thing- campaigning.
I guess the % of minorities impacted has finally reached a sufficient level. Either that, or some golf courses in the area finally got enough rain to really be in tip-top shape.
