"Since private and public Vices, are in reality, though not always apparently, so nearly connected, of how much Importance, how necessary is it, that the utmost pains be taken by the public, to have the Principles of Virtue early inculcated on the minds even of children, and the moral sense kept alive, and that the wise institutions of our ancestors for these great purposes be encouraged by the government. For no people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when Knowledge is diffus'd and Virtue is preserv'd. On the contrary, when People are universally ignorant, and debauch'd in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders."

-- Samuel Adams, 4 Nov. 1775, The Writings of Samuel Adams. Edited by Harry Alonzo Cushing. 4 vols. New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1904--8.

I am looking forward to Johnson injecting some sensible libertarian ideas into the debate. The “evangelical” wing of the GOP has held sway for too long on the debate and the tea party message is libertarian based.

Don't let JimRob hear you say that.

"He who is void of virtuous attachments in private life is, or very soon will be, void of all regard of his country. There is seldom an instance of a man guilty of betraying his country who had not before lost the feeling of moral obligations in his private connections… [P]rivate and public vices are in reality… connected… Nothing is more essential to the establishment of manners in a State than that all persons employed in places of power and trust be men of [exceptional] character. The public cannot be too curious concerning the characters of public men."

-- Samuel Adams, The Writings of Samuel Adams, Harry Alonzo Cushing, ed., (NY: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1907), vol III, pp. 236-37, to James Warren on Nov. 4, 1775.

"Let divines and philosophers, statesmen and patriots, unite their endeavors to renovate the age by impressing the minds of men with the importance of educating their little boys and girls, inculcating in the minds of youth the fear and love of the Deity… and leading them in the study and practice of the exalted virtues of the Christian system."

-- Samuel Adams October 4, 1790

I agree that is not ideal, but for the President what would matter is picking judges that would reverse Roe v. Wade (which is all a president can do).

And, he’s for reversing Roe v. Wade.

Again, I am not a huge fan, but he is a intellectually consitent libertarian who would actually accomplish anything.

That’s way better than fakes like Romney or Pawlenty who would SAY they are pro-life, but not do a damn thing about it.

“There are 30 states that, if Roe were overturned, would immediately place significant restrictions on abortion, and around 20 states (I’m doing this from memory) that would all but ban abortions except in the “exception cases.” That’d be a darned good start on an abortion-free America. I’m willing to take my loaf of bread a few slices at a time.”

Me, too.

Yeah, I’d love a Constitutional amendment re: abortion, but it’s NOT GOING TO HAPPEN ANY TIME SOON, so I will take what I can take in the mean time.

Killing children means he goes to playgrounds and shoots or slices living, breathing skulls full of mush.

So if he did it at an aborturary it would be okay?

Nine states have more unaffiliated voters than registered RATs or OP(aka GOP). Three more saw a greater increase of unaffiliated voters than RATs or OP from 2008-2010.

Now THERE'S a set of statistical data that neither party wants to acknowledge.

I would be VERY interested to see where those unaffiliated registrants distribute ideologically. The media would have us believe that all of these unaffiliated voters are in the middle, between the two parties, and are part of that pool of "independents" who are "up for grabs" every election.

This just is NOT true.

For my part, I didn't re-register as non-partisan because the GOP was too conservative, but because they aren't conservative enough, and I seriously doubt that I'm alone.

The research has to be done; the numbers have to come out, and the GOP needs to look in the mirror and have a come to Jesus meeting. Dollars to donuts; they're losing their largest numbers to the more Conservative RIGHT, not to the more moderate Left.

Hope he doesn’t run then.

He is running as indicated by the title of the thread.

If you don’t vote at all because the R is pro-abortion aren’t you then helping to elect the worse evil?

Voting for a pro-abortion Republican makes the person doing so the evil they claim to oppose.

You view drilling for oil as more important than protecting an innocent baby’s life?

Exactly which priorities of those you label "evangelical" do you object to?

“Do you see the difference?”

You probably don't want to start that argument.
Start with listing the differences.

usually I would say NO, but in 2012 I want the MARXIST out -- if the GOP came up with Trump and G Johnson, I'll hold my nose and vote for them.

Abortion to me is MURDER, but I want us to be UNITED so we can DEFEAT the MARXIST!!

If it was Jimmy carter or Bill Clinton in the White House, I would concern myself with social issues, but Zero is not JC or BC (Who would've thought that there would be a WORSE president then Carter!!), so I am going to try to get Palin/bachman, Cain/West or a combination of those 4 ELECTED so we don't split the GOP votes!!

Abortion is government-enforced control of one person over the life of another.

Q: Who will you vote for in a future election if your two candidates are: 1) Obama or 2) a pro-choice Republican?

I'd vote for an independent candidate.
