My hat is off and my eyes are teary at the thought of those brave men who fought the greatest standing army of the day. I would, however, like to point out the third battle of the day - the battle that sealed the Americans’ resolution to defend themselves. Following Lexington and Concord, as the British retreated back toward Boston, the Minutemen and other militia of the towns along the road joined the fight. They had either seen friends die or had heard reports of the earlier events. And yet, they attacked the retreating column in the vicinity and through the town of Menotomy (now called Arlington). The Americans were untrained and committed a number of tactical errors that got a lot of people killed, including the bayoneting of a number of unarmed civilians. But, the Americans continued to attack. That, my friends is the miracle of the day. Present ... arms!
So true...I know Concord wasn’t where it started, but Concord is where we told the Crown we were prepared to finish it!
