Just in his mid-20s, Brian Deschane has no college degree, very little management experience and two drunken-driving convictions.
Yet he has landed an $81,500-per-year job in Gov. Scott Walker's administration overseeing environmental and regulatory matters and dozens of employees at the Department of Commerce. Even though Walker says the state is broke and public employees are overpaid, Deschane already has earned a promotion and a 26% pay raise in just two months with the state.
How did Deschane score his plum assignment with the Walker team?
It's all in the family.
His father is Jerry Deschane, executive vice president and longtime lobbyist for the Madison-based Wisconsin Builders Association, which bet big on Walker during last year's governor's race.
The group's political action committee gave $29,000 to Walker and his running mate, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, last year, making it one of the top five PAC donors to the governor's successful campaign. Even more impressive, members of the trade group funneled more than $92,000 through its conduit to Walker's campaign over the past two years.
Total donations: $121,652.
That's big-time backing from the homebuilders.
The younger Deschane didn't respond to questions about his job.
But his father said he doesn't think his group's financial support of the first-term Republican helped his son in his job search.
"He got the position himself," said Jerry Deschane, who returned to the trade group in September after a hiatus during which he worked as an independent lobbyist for many groups, including the builders association. "I didn't get it for him."
One Walker critic isn't buying it.
State Rep. Brett Hulsey called Deschane's appointment another case of the new administration using state jobs to repay various industries.
Hulsey said he was unimpressed with the younger Deschane's résumé, including his lack of environmental or management experience.

When you turn over the tables of the moneychangers, you darn well better make sure you’re sinless.
It may be a little early calling anyone a 'lackey', the way it looks, Walker (or an air) reviewed the situation and straightened things out ... no need to create strawman arguments yet ...

Not True:
ABA Admission Requirements:
Standard 502. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
(a) A law school shall require for admission to its J.D. degree program a bachelors degree, or successful completion of three-fourths of the work acceptable for a bachelors degree, from an institution that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the Department of Education.
(b) In an extraordinary case, a law school may admit to its J.D. degree program an applicant who does not possess the educational requirements of subsection (a) if the applicants experience ability, and other characteristics clearly show an aptitude for the study of law. The admitting officer shall sign and place in the admittees file a statement of the considerations that led to the decision to admit the applicant.
.
What could be a more extraordinary case than a poor orphaned black kid from Indonesia who took a lot of courses at college, but because of extraordinary circumstances was unable to complete the degree program.
BTW, has anyone ever seen his undergraduate degree from Columbia? A lot of websites talk about it, but I can't seem to find a listing of what year he graduated, nor is there a list anywhere on the planet of what courses he completed before entering Law School.
Perhaps you can fill us all in on that?
“yet another outbreak of this birther nonsense?
You DO realize its a matter of easily verifiable record that Obama graduated from Harvard law School and was editor of the Law Review and that the ABA requires all entrants to any a credited law school to prove they have a 4-year undergraduate degree?
For the love of holy hell could we PLEASE concentrate on the multitude of REAL sins Obamas committed in office instead of repeating easily discredited nonsense that makes all us conservatives look like paranoid cranks?
“
SURELY we can walk and chew gum at the same time?
I’d like to have a look at the boy genius transcripts and hold them up for ridicule the way they did with President Bush. And I’d also like to hold up the long form birth certificate to see what he’s hiding there. If you DONT want to get into it then you can serve by pointing out all of obamas other numerous weaknesses.
And dont worry, the liberals have plenty of derision to go around. Once they stop throwing monkey excrement at the birthers, they will come after YOU.
The Won wasn’t editor of the law review, he was given an AA post of president.
Screw you, Troll
Forget strawmen. We have Pollyannas of your ilk in abundance.
Great line. May I take it as my tagline?
Walker did not give the job to some “Moderate” Ragheaded Babyeffing mooselim.
Sounds more like a Democrat ~ but I’ve seen this sort of thing happen. Richard Nixon got into office and took all of Bryce Harlow’s younger friends and put them in great jobs in various federal agencies.
Lets see here, I’m 27, a couple o DUI convictions, no college degree, not much in the way of work experience and a rich daddy lobbyist. The only way this kid could get a 60 G a year job is government cronyism. Whatever happened to earning what we get?
Wow, you are awesome! Thanks for finding this tidbit from jsonline! I wish I had never voted for Scott Walker.
Didn’t take Scott long to learn how the game is played.
That's still a ridiculous salary.
Well played P-Marlowe. Thanks for the well-reasoned, fact-based reply.
Look pro bono publico
If Obama can fake his way into the Presidency, he can fake his way into a liberal law school like Hahvud.
Use your legal skills.
Pro bono publico is probably a Legal Aid lawyer, so s/he is probably also a Democrat.

Yeah, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Too bad they didn’t tell us, say, what his work history is, so we could decide for ourselves if its unreasonable.
