Lawmakers condemn burning of Koran
The Washington Times ^ | April 3, 2011 | David Eldridge

Congressional leaders Sunday denounced the recent Koran burning in Florida that is being blamed for days of deadly anti-American riots across Afghanistan and hinted at possible congressional condemnation or hearings.

The book burning, done by Florida pastor Terry Jones with little publicity at the time almost two weeks ago, is being blamed for attacks that led to the deaths of seven U.N. workers on Friday.

Protests continued during the weekend, with 10 people killed in rioting in Kandahar on Saturday and Sunday. Hundreds of demonstrators burned an effigy of President Obama on Sunday in Jalalabad while stomping on a U.S. flag and blocking the main highway for three hours, according to reporters in Afghanistan.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was asked by host Bob Schieffer on CBS‘ “Face the Nation” whether he would “introduce a resolution to condemn” the burning of the Muslim holy book, as requested by Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

The Nevada Democrat replied, “Well, we’ll take a look at this, of course. John Kerry, the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, has been on top of this. He’s made many trips to Afghanistan and I think will take a look at this.”

On the same show, Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Republican, made an analogy to wartime free-speech limits and said, “I wish we could find a way to hold people accountable. Free speech is a great idea, but we’re in a war.”

“During World War II, we had limits on what you could do if it inspired the enemy,” he said.

I vote we send Jones and his 50 member group to Pakistan to preach and convert the natives. Give them unlimited ammo too and unlimited bibles too.

here ya go: http://www.alislam.org/quran/search2/

download a copy of the koran (qoran?).

in so doing, it will be copied from server to server...

then deleted.

deleting is so much more permanent then burning. and it’s easily repeated.

If the Pastor were really smart, he would cut out a single evil passage from the Koran each day and read it aloud and post it to the web prior to burning it. This way, the people out there who are clueless about islam would be exposed to the evil that is contained in the Koran, and those who denounce his actions would have to defend the content of passages he burned.

I'll go for the Bibles but ammo? What could a man of God such as himself possibly have to fear from the people of Pakistan? Show them his holiness and love and no doubt he'll convert them in droves.

Exactly.

They are excusing the action of the Muslims by placing the blame on Terry Jones.

Jones did not kill anyone, he merely burned a Satanic scrawl.

If they’re gonna play fast and loose with the 1st amendment, why don’t they condenm the LSM for giving this crackpot the attention he craves.

Apparently you missed the "little attention" part of the article. IOW, there was no attention paid to this guy and his Koran burning.

A few months back when this was publicized it was in all of the world's press this guy's intention, yet there wasn't a notable increase in the usual levels of death and mayhem typical of these Koranimals. Now all of a sudden some UN people are butchered in northern AF which is the closest thing to being hermetically sealed in a dark underground cavern as far as media exposure goes, and only now we find out that this guy actually burned a Koran.

Use some common sense, how can an illiterate people with no print or electric media know about the actions of some guy eight and a half time zones away especially when all of the rest of the world heard nothing about it? Furthermore, why ONLY the northern AF muslims when we have seen Turkish, Iraqi, Iranian, Saudi, Indonesian muslims go crazy over the Mohammad pictures and other perceived slights against Islam? Where is the rioting now in those areas?

You have been played the fool by the media and by this government.

If you want to find the real cause, look no further than what would normally be Zero's Abu Ghraib. The people in northern AF are reacting to the photos of their own neighbors, civilians, killed and posed as trophies to coalition troops that appeared in the German press. The soldiers are currently on trial in Seattle, the enemedia is unusually silent since these killings would be on Barry's watch and thus it is his scandal.

I submit that the Koran burning is the mother of all red herrings. Koran burnings are conducted almost everyday and no one reports it because no one cares. Back when this pastor was planning an event that has been going on other places for ages, the news of the scandal hit this administration and so they were looking for a scapegoat to take the heat when the pictures finally did make the press.

This is an engineered outrage. This is the administration wanting to cover up the trophy killings by suggesting that the AF muzzies are upset over a stupid Koran burning and not slaughtering of their neighbors. That is why General Betray-us has chimed in condemning the united States Constitution and demanding that Americans bow down to Islam. Its HIS people who did this thing, and he would rather defecate on the US Constitution then let himself and the CiC take the heat.

We are a nation ruled by cowards and traitors and you are getting your news from Fifth Column seditionists. Why do you believe without an ounce of skepticism the lies and BS that have always characterized these institutions?

““During World War II, we had limits on what you could do if it inspired the enemy,” he said.”

Wrong. Our wartime propaganda shredded the enemy verbally. What was forbidden was information that could help the enemy. Get it right, Lindsey.

“Cloward and Piven were correct, the Chinese/Russian/Iranian/Venezuelan/Mexican “UN” soldiers will land about 2 million deep in CA, OR and WA to collect their debts.

I am completely serious and think there is a reason we do not protect our border and send hundred of thousands into a war that only benefits government contractors, thousands of miles away, fighting Jihadis and Heroin lords.”

It’s nice to see a body with its head up out of the sand

There are no real men in Washington anymore. Just a bunch of spineless PC *ussys. In America 1.0, the killings would have inspired Koran burnings oall over the country in defiance of the muzzy scum. Furthermore the twin towers would have been rebuilt in a year, and anyone proposing a victory moque overlooking the site would have had to flee for his life.

Reid can not wait to appease Muslim terrorists but can not find a kind word for murdered Christians.

Meanwhile, Miss Lindsey is trying to take away our First Amendment rights to coddle terrorists.

How about a resolution that says:

You don’t destroy the bible we won’t destroy the Koran,

You don’t kill Christians we won’t kill Muslims,

You allow building of Churches and we will allow Mosques.

Your allow religious freedom like we allow religious freedom and we will continue to allow you to visit our country.

Until all points are met no more immigrants, refugees, of the Muslim faith.

On Saturday, Mr. Obama called the burning “an act of extreme intolerance and bigotry” and extended condolences to families of the dead U.S. workers.

I wonder if the SOB had anything to say about the murders.

Our lawmakers and our President need to stand up and tell the rest of the world that we live in a free country here.

Um. No, but thanks for playing. Those folks' lives are at risk simply because of the existence of the Moslems. Moslems are simply using the latest outrage-of-the-day to excuse their already rampant killing and destruction. Killing and destruction that would continue regardless of whether a pastor in Florida burned a book.

Yes, I do mean well, and that includes the welfare of my son and his mates. He spent 8 months in Afganistan in 2006 with Special Forces, and since he has 5 more years to go on his 20 years, he may well go there again. The city where the first outbreak occurred, Massar el Sharif (sp?) has been quite quiet and resisted the Taliban for a long time before we went there, so this is a very disturbing development. They had not been finding other excuses to riot before this. So stupid people exercising their questionable rights worries me a lot.

Bummer “lawmakers” should not be lowtowing but defending this man, and the First amendment, then start shipping these Islmists back starting with CAIR and Code Pink...Soro’s will have a very special place as will most of Soetero’s czars; limpdinkus Barry says nothing but does a whole lot, ole totus is a nasty piece of work

True.

Killing and destruction that would continue regardless of whether a pastor in Florida burned a book.

True, but at a lesser level -- remember that these Christians have been there for centuries and this is now pushing the problem over the edge.

Their lives are at risk because of Moslems, yes and I would support us following Ann Coulter's dictum of going in and converting them
