There's no question that the rebels Americans are currently fighting for in Libya include in their ranks jihadis who in recent years traveled to Iraq and Afghanistan to kill Americans. The only question is whether that worries you or not.
Take Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi, a leader of U.S.-supported rebels in the fighting for Adjabiya. His hometown, Darnah, has produced many jihadis, and after the Sept. 11 attacks al-Hasidi traveled to Afghanistan to fight the "foreign invasion" -- that is, the U.S. military. According to a report in Britain's Daily Telegraph, al-Hasidi says he was later captured in Pakistan, handed over to the U.S., then held in prison in Libya before being released in 2008.
In addition to fighting the U.S. in Afghanistan, al-Hasidi also says he recruited about two dozen men to fight the U.S. in Iraq.
Now al-Hasidi and his allies are moving toward Tripoli, which would not be possible without the military power of the United States. The men who devoted so much energy to killing Americans are now thankfully watching Americans kill for them.
To some observers, that's no big deal. "No one seems all that frightened by him," the New York Times wrote of al-Hasidi after a visit to Darnah in early March. Al-Hasidi, the paper reported, "praises Osama bin Laden's 'good points' but denounces the 9/11 attacks on the United States." And besides, the Times reported, al-Hasidi finds it amusing that the government of Moammar Gadhafi considers him an al Qaeda terrorist. "He promised to lay down his arms once victory is won and return, he said, to teaching," the Times reported.
Maybe you believe that. Maybe you don't. The problem is, al-Hasidi is by no means alone.
We know that from intelligence gained in the Iraq War.

Well, that’s great.
We are creating a bunch of Osama bin Laden lookalikes.
and supporting guys who killed our guys...aint that Obama so kinetically clever?
I wonder if Obie is giving them food and ammo too?
NOOO! Say it ain't sooo!!!
Now just as before, the republicans defend us from our enemies and the democrates aid them
He just so nuanced. I listened to his pathetic thespian act and you can tell this Bozo doesn’t believe a word of what he said.
He stumbled and he is usually pretty good with the teleprompter.
He kept blinking his eyes, rapidly.
and kept putting hand out like he is pushing someone away.
All signs of a Lie.
He “returned to his life as a humble schoolteacher” right after he got out of prison in ‘08. How long did that last?
Just wait, Syria is next, and then.....and then.....
When will we hear obama say, “There wasn’t any al Queda in Libya until I went into Libya”?
This is just plain stoopid. I’m all for change in the ME and told everyone once Iraq was organized we would change the rest of the ME.
I really thought it would be in a controlled manner though.
I despise, loathe and even hate a few leaders over there but we ain’t managing this thing and it’s just plain chaos.
I don’t play craps for a reason. You never know what you are going to get when you roll the dice.
We are going to end up with new bastuhds from the sandbox mobile home park who have no qualms about offing anyone that crosses their path.
Once you have a hold on the kind of power those murderers want, that kind of avarice will lead to beatings of all who don’t move fast enough or jump high enough.
4. If you support this intervention for humanitarian reasons, please file your apology to George Bush at the door as you leave the anti-war camp. Every reason given on humanitarian grounds to justify this war was also given by Bush regarding Iraq. I didn't believe these things then, and having them come out of the mouth of a nominal political ally doesn't make them any more true now than they were then......
Sad to say, but even Bush was better on this score - he had the guts to actually state an objective going in. Never mind that the real objective turned out to be quite different; it was at least a standard to compare performance against. What's our objective this time? End the Qadafi regime? Then why is he not a target? Moreover, the tactics suck rotten eggs. Whose bright idea was it to throw multi-million dollar missiles at cheap, low-tech targets? We keep up that strategy and even the regime in Libya can outlast us just by hunkering down until we run out of money. Economics is a big part of war, and on that score this “kinetic military action” (Hello, Mr. Orwell? Your patent lawyer is breathlessly awaiting you on line 1) is an epic failure.
Its just beyond outrageous. Half a billion dollars in one week to support Al Queda fighters. Where in the Holy Heckoli is the GOP leadership? Are they just out to lunch permanently or what?
Obastard is a muslime (symp at the least), so he gets it. Most don’t.
What happens is we kill for muslimes, proving our superior warfighting skills. The fact that we are helping them bring NO gratitude in their “honor” based culture. Instead, it is actually an insult because it show their weakness. They then hate us for it.
Too few people have even a clue about the difference between a guilt (Judeau/Chistine) based cultural worldview - where help is received with thanks - and an “honor” (muslime) based worldview - where help is seen as a subjugation and/or humiliation.
The result: Our help to the “rebels” will just make them hate us more just as soon as this fight is done.
The saving grace? Obastard is so incompetent that this fight won’t be done for quite a while. And I’m OK with that just as long as we don’t have boots on the ground...
PS Sorry for the typos. Blackberry’s keyboard is sticky and screen needs cleaned...
Maybe citizenship for their special 'cells'...
you been postin at the DUmpster again??? 8^}
That is right on parr.
LOL, what a hoot, DU lamenting this military campaign by ZERO.
I’m thinking this disagreement is ten miles wide and 1/128th inch thick.
