Following the UN resolution on Thursday night that paved the way for military strikes against Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, Obama had been silent for 20 hours. While the French and British were making preparations for military action, and the Germans pondered the wisdom of their abstention, the White House preferred to wait.
That was partly because no one in Washington really knows what to make of Gadhafi's recent maneuvering. But mainly it is because Obama finds himself trapped in a dilemma: He must explain to his people why he gone from being a staunch opponent of US military action to its advocate. It would be the third current American military operation in a Muslim country, after Afghanistan and Iraq.
Some American commentators have already begun referring to the Korean War. That war, which traumatized generations of Americans, began in a similar fashion in 1950, with a UN resolution and an offer of help from the West.
From peace to war in seven days: It is enough to give people "whiplash," complained Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson on the TV channel MSNBC.
...
Obama is "going on vacation," mocked host Steve Doocy on the conservative Fox News network. "He's going to Rio. You've got to be kidding. He's taking his family."

Tell me you’re joking. He never OWNS anything. Somehow, some way it will get it around to Bush. Already CodePink is conjuring up Reagan’s bombing of Tripoli 25 years ago. Strangely silent on the current attacks.
That really hurts!
Actually, it was a bombing of a night club in Germany that killed several US Service Men. There was proof of Gadhafi’s involvement. Pan Am Lockerbie is considered to be retaliation of our airstrikes. Pretty sure that’s how it all played out. Oh, and the damn Italian PM didn’t just deny us airspace, but actually told Gadhafi about the strike, most likely saving his life.
The entire story is a good read over at Wikipedia.
Had me fooled....I always thought 0bama wanted the UN to run the world and all military assets, tax the US the most so the third world locals could come up to a better standard while we sink into the swamps of once upon a time great nations.
Since it is Barry’s war, have you noticed no one is asking: “How is he gonna pay for it”?
gross!
lol
I obviously ate too much cheese before bed, and now I'm having this ludicrous nightmare that I can't wake up from.
Now I will play liberal's advocate: Don't baFrack Libya.
There are no terrorists in Libya.
Libya didn't attack us on 9/11.
It's not about democracy or human rights, it's about oil.
"No ground troops" because our forces are too busy stealing Iraq's and Afghanistan's oil.
Our natural resources cause global warming, but going to war for other country's natural resources is definitely worth the death toll.
Obama now involved in more wars than Bush.
Obama bombs 3rd world babies for profit.
**************************
These are not real arguments. I'm simply replaying liberal, anti-Bush arguments replacing the word Iraq with Libya.
As I posted on another thread, I think most of you are missing the main point here.
Its NOT the War on Libya we should be focusing on, whether you are for or against.
Its the now CLEARLY EXPOSED hypocrisy of the Democrats and the anti-war left, who for years literally committed treason, and gave aid to the people killing American Soldiers, so they could try to make George Bush look bad, and get a Democrat elected.
Obama uses words that could have come straight out of George Bushs mouth when he announced the attacks in his speech, yet the YEAR we spent debating going to war in Iraq was a Rush To WAR!.Can someone remind me of the Congressional Debate on War with Libya that I messed?
Where are these people and their faked anti-war outrage now?
Where are the cries of:
NO BLOOD FOR OIL!
and
How many deaths per gallon is oil for France worth??
or the street demonstration signs printed with:
Has Obama Killed Enough Kids For TOTAL/Halliburton, Yet?
with the libs/Democrats carrying them screaming
OBAMA LIED, LIBYAN KIDS DIED!!?
In just one day, Obama has turned the entire anti-war left in to open hypocrites. They could always claim the moral high ground, and hide political hate behind the claims of being for peace, not war.
Where are these people now?
I dont like Mikey Jabba-The-Pizza-Hutt Moore, but at least he isnt being a hypocrite about this.
THIS is where and how we should be attacking Obama and the left on this.
Does he have a clue?
He stands to miss some NCAA action.
Don't rule out that Obama's real motivation in Egypt and now Libya is destabilizing the region so his radical budies in the Muslim world can get more control. You know, the kind of people who strap bombs on children to kill Christians.
--------------------------
Right achilles!
Obama says US role limited as Libya strikes start.
So now we're belligerents in an Arab War in The land of the Libu (the ancient Berber tribe).
'Operation Arugula' (Zer0 does Al-Qaeda's dirty work - Can you say 'caliphate coalition'?)
Is it possible we are helping the Brotherhood take over the Middle East?
In this corner you have the regime of Muammar Gaddafi, which refers to the country as the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya (People's Republic), controls Tripoli and several other cities in the western half of the country.
And in the other corner there's the National Transitional Council of the Libyan Republic, led by Mustafa Abdul Jalil, based in Benghazi and controls the eastern half of the country.
I say stay the f' out of somebody else's war!
Where's Waldo? Is this the first time we ever started a war and the President was outside of the country and on vacation?
I’m wondering why the US decided to support this action, when it was essentially instigated by the French & British? France, when it didn’t suit them argued against Saddam’s overthrow & didn’t participate. Even Sarkozy opposed the Iraq intervention. So, what’s in it now for those (France, Britain, Lebanon & U.S.) who co-sponsored this at the UN Security Council?
Ground troops are already moving. And if you had an ear to the ground here in EU, you'd know that the lefty political Obama allies have already laid the game plan out: air attacks are just the foot in the door, the goal is Gadhafi in a show trial in the international criminal court. Meanwhile, Obama has turned the US army into an Al Quaida proxy force.
For the slowpokes who never could connect the dots and resolve the seeming shia/sunni thing, AQ=Iran, since at least 2004. Look at Obama and see the shadow of Homodinejad.
What’s in fighting this war for us???
What did we ever get out of helping Afghanistan against the Soviets?
What did we ever get out of having Marines stationed in Beirut?
What did we ever get out of Kosovo?
What did we ever get out of Kuwait for pulling Sadam’s boot out of their rectum? (Did they ever even repay us a single penny???)
What do we ever get out of the Saudis for propping up their sorry a$$e$?
Why aren’t we drilling in our own country, becoming completely independent of these a-holes?
Great: so now we’re in yet another fight killing one group of Moose-limbs for another. Haven’t we learned that they are completely capable of killing each other without our help???
Does anyone really believe the Moose-limbs will love us after this??? (If so, I have some prime swamp land in Florida to sell!)
And who is going to rule Libya after Daffi-duck is gone??? My money is on yet another dictatorship with no love for the west. “Meet the new boss” and such, don’t ya know?
Let the muzzies kill each other and let Allah sort them out, IMHO.
After heaving all over my keyboard I shall say a special prayer for you today. Now off to the eye bleach station.
Hoo hoooooo! I can hardly wait for the anti-war protestors outside The White House.
Wait a minute. What good will the protests do? The LSM won't cover them.
