Californians are bummed out.
The Golden State's residents rated their quality of life at its lowest mark in almost 20 years, citing the economic downturn and stagnant personal finances, according to a joint UC Berkeley and Field Poll.
"Residents are reconsidering the image of the Golden State and showing more ambivalence toward it," said Jack Citrin, a Berkeley political science professor who co-wrote the report. "The changes going on - socially, culturally, economic - have made people here less Pollyannaish about the reality of life here."
The poll, based on a telephone survey of 898 registered voters in February, showed that only 39 percent considered the state "one of the best places to live," compared with the glory days of 1985, when 78 percent gave the state the highest rating.
Californians' self-assessment has gradually declined since then, with occasional spurts of optimism, until the appraisal rock-bottomed in 1992 at the tail end of a national recession.
Jon Christensen, the executive director of the Bill Lane Center for the American West at Stanford University, said while the poll reflected personal financial woes. Californians are also bothered by a dysfunctional state government mired in a budget crisis.

Central valley? Watsonville is right on the coast and is 85% Mexican.
Right there on one of America's nicest coast lines, you'll find few Americans. And they are subsidized to live there.
For those of you living in the hot south or the cold north, you can be assured that your taxes are affording a great lifestyle to a bunch of illegal aliens living large on the beautiful California coast.
File this under “Their Own D*** Fault”
next all the libtards are going to californicate the other states when they flee California
You mean the state cannot carry 30 million non-and marginally-productive or contributive citizens and pay legions of unionized state employees fabulous salaries and benefits at the same time? Hard to believe.
¡Perdonáme, se olvidó oprimir número dos para español! Surely, when this region of Aztlán reunites with México all of this fiscal nonsense will be solved satisfactorily.
There are a lot of children of illegals that can speak neither Spanish or English well. They can only grunt in Spanglish.
Yet, they’re too PC to solve the illegals problem, and too stupid to elect conservatives to fix it.
People dig their own graves, and when you tell them to stop digging, they just find the nearest illegal immigrant, and hand the shovel to him to keep digging their hole.
Well, I have always had these five reasons that discourage me from trying to live permanently in the state of CA.
1) Corrupt, lax police enforcement
2) Rampant acceptance of illegal immigration
3) Rampant defiance of the law of the land by numerous people, especially with respect to drug issues.
4) Expensive to live there.
5) Unsafe due to mudslides.
However, for those who do live there, and work to be virtuous and charitable, they have my respect.
The NEW ballad of Jed Clampett
Come and listen to a story ‘bout a man named Jed
Poor oil entrepreneur barely kept his family fed
Then one day he was working for some food,
And up through the town come a bumbling clown
(Brown that is, take a toke, what a joke)
Well the first thing you know old Jed’s taxes are to much to bear,
Kin folk said Jed move away from there!
Said California is no place for you to be
So they loaded up the truck and they moved from Beverly
(gon back to the Hills they are, fishn holes, country and western stars)
Well now it’s time to say goodbye to Jed and all his kin
They would like to thank you folks for kindly dropping in
You’re all invited back again to their new locality
To have a heaping helping of their hospitality
(Redneck Hillbillies, is what the press call ‘em now,
Clingers of bibles and guns and to Obama no bow!
Nice folks Y’all come back now, ya hear?)
It AZ is such a welcome change from CA, why do we rent our home in Carmel to AZ residents all summer? Don’t get me wrong, AZ is a nice place, in the Winter. If yo guys ever loose your electric power, you’ll be headed our way pronto if it’s summertime.
Another paradise destroyed by greedbags, bigots & plain ol' idiots in the name of liberalism.

Too bad for them huh?
What the hell is a stoke?
Oh, and I also forgot, we have relatives in the Phoenix area. They had to move from Glendale to Peoria ten years ago because the gunfire kept them awake and their neighbors didn’t speak English. Arizona, like California, only smaller!
Nor to they care. Politics are local. You know what is best for you and your community and Sacramento and Washington knows what is best for themselves.
If California really wants change, the people will find people to put into government that don't suck. As long as Californians keep electing same self serving and ever deceiving politicians, things will get worse.
I escaped in '76 to join the Air Force and never moved back. Best decision I ever made!
illegal immigration - as opposed to legal immigration - has negatively impacted the state's quality of life.
No?! Really?!
“It will eventually get to the point where we get up in the morning to go to work and lose most of our paychecks to pay for leftist filth.”

I believe we are already there, and have been for some time.
A glance at the severely limited, proscribed powers of government under our Constitution, indicates that we have been on the downward spiral for a LONG time.
No Mr. Franklin, we most definitely, COULDN’T keep it.....
Having been to most places in the US there is no place that I would consider living other than So. California.
Both myne and my wifes familys have been in So. California for over 150 years we ain’t going anywhere!
