I think that Obama means us harm, so I don’t think he’s interested in any useful advice I might give him — nevertheless, I offer this:
If Obama gave a speech about the Bush presidency, and called for a reassessment, he could gain huge political points. It’s hard to be president. It’s hard to know what to do about Libya. Or Iraq or Afghanistan for that matter. Yellowcake? WMD? There are no easy answers. We have debt and deficits, and all kinds of things. Bush had Enron, and the tech stock meltdown. The president really doesn’t control all that much.
If Obama called for truly civil discussion, and a true bipartisan approach to our nation’s problems, he could become a really significant figure. By convincing the Democrats that the Republicans were not evil, and convincing the Republicans that the Democrats were not insane, he could really achieve something.
But he doesn’t have it in him.
You gotta be kidding.
