The Danes occupied what we know today as Normandy, and as such the “Normans” were only with difficulty held in check by the French. Eventually they became subjects of France after Rollo, their leader, adopted Christianity. By the 10th Century Normandy was Christianized and Christianity itself was known in Denmark. I think the Danes have always considered themselves a step above the Swedes, in smarts and in combat.
