Funny thing, I did a empirical experiment.
I filled a glass almost to the top with water, then added icecubes till the water came to the top of the glass.
Then I waited foe the ice to melt.
The water level remained the same and the glass never overflowed.
But much of the ice in Antarctica is on land - so those ice cubes still need to be added to your glass. Having said that, AGW is crap.
Because you missed a step.
Try this: Build a tropical Island Paradise in the middle of the glass.
OOPS.... you need money first? Well, that's where the Global Warming Initiative comes in.
Then I waited foe the ice to melt.
The water level remained the same and the glass never overflowed.
Oy veh! Will SOMEBODY shut this guy up! He's ruining my scam!
Your experiment proves that the melting of sea ice cannot cause sea levels to rise (indeed, though the effect is too small to not in your glass, it will cause a slight lowering of sea levels, as ice is less dense than water — hence it floats).
Ice pack on land melting is another matter. Were something to cause the whole planet to have a semi-tropical climate, the melting of the ice on Greenland and Antarctica (and even the glaciers on various mountain ranges at latitudes where lowlands are not particularly cold) would raise sea levels. The corresponding experiment to carry out in one’s kitchen would be to fill a glass with water, suspend a funnel with ice in it over the glass to simulate ice on land, but not in the sea, and wait for the ice to melt. I assure you the glass will overflow.
See how changing just one element can destroy the
experiment.
I did the same one only using Scotch instead of water,
and when the Ice was melted, there wasn’t anything left.
I love science, although in the interests of accuracy
I may have to try it again, just to be sure.
