Is this the same Daniels that was on Chris Wallace's show this past weekend saying that we should "Means Test" Social Security???? "Means Testing" is another Democrat method of "Redistributing the Wealth". No real Republican would endorse this!
On the same show he said we need to deal with the Democrats so we shouldn't push our social agenda. So much for our Pro-Life agenda and our silly thinking that marriage should be between one man and one woman.
I don't think he should be our candidate for president.....maybe he could run as a Democrat.
I don't have a problem with it. Social Security, at bottom, is a welfare program. That was its original intent. Shouldn't welfare programs be means-tested?
Further, the Social Security Trust Fund is a fiction. The money is collected and spent like any other tax revenue. Therefore, just because someone "paid into the system" doesn't mean they have a special claim on benefits, any more than a public union has a special claim on a fat pension check.
These are "entitlements" created by the gubmint. It's high time they started whiddling them down.

I'm fine with giving it a rest. There's very little a president can do anyway, and since the Congress is independent of the president, they can choose to take his advice or leave it. Doesn't bother me at all.
