If there are Republicans who would rather not see either Romney or Palin on the ticket, or just don’t want to see a bloody primary between them, they had better unite behind another candidate. And given the speed with which the primaries are approaching — the Iowa straw poll is in August — they had better do it fast.

That's me. Anyone else out there in the same boat? Any suggestions? So far, as the author alludes, Daniels is probably the best hope at the anti-Palin/anti-Romney, despite his recent troubles.

And his "recent troubles" have been overblown by precisely the sort of identity politics that Ponnuru describes in his excellent article.

The so-called "truce" on social issues, for example: if you read Daniels' actual comments, they make a great deal of sense, and are in no way the "surrender" that the yahoos try to make them out to be.

The uproar about "right to work" is a result of an understandable and justifiable tactical move. Daniels never had actual control over the issue to begin with; his decision was whether or not to push the Republican-controlled Indiana House to make it an issue.

All of this noise reflects the decadence of the GOP, and its fundamental lack of seriousness. We all know what the really big issues are -- the ones that threaten us now. We know it. But the party platform is driven by single-issue hysterics who place their own agendas above the good of the country (not just the party).

God save us from our own stupid party....

Is this the same Daniels that was on Chris Wallace's show this past weekend saying that we should "Means Test" Social Security???? "Means Testing" is another Democrat method of "Redistributing the Wealth". No real Republican would endorse this!

On the same show he said we need to deal with the Democrats so we shouldn't push our social agenda. So much for our Pro-Life agenda and our silly thinking that marriage should be between one man and one woman.

I don't think he should be our candidate for president.....maybe he could run as a Democrat.

Daniels I'll consider. Right now, I'm leaning Cain or Gary Johnson by default more than anything else.

Daniels made some comments I'm concerned with, but I like his actions so far, and that's what I look at first. The biggest complaint I hear about him is so called "charisma", but lack of charisma to me is a positive. I'm voting for a CEO or a General Manager, not a preacher or a coach.

I think former michigan governor John Engler should appear somewhere on the ticket....he cleaned up michigan real fast, and served 3 terms in a strong union state...as sarah’s vp, just might be the ticket
