A group of South Carolina attorneys is putting up the stiffest resistance yet to a Righthaven LLC copyright infringement lawsuit, threatening Friday to press for sanctions against Las Vegas-based Righthaven and to hit it with a malicious prosecution claim.
Righthaven is a company that has filed at least 239 copyright infringement lawsuits since March over copyrights it obtained from the Las Vegas Review-Journal and the Denver Post.
The South Carolina attorneys filed a counterclaim Friday in Charleston, S.C., federal court against Righthaven that, among other things, accuses Righthaven of violating South Carolinas Unfair Trade Practices Act when it sued Dana Eiser of Summerville, S.C., after a Denver Post column was posted on her nonprofit website .

Sounds like it's time for a whole bunch of lawyers who see a slam dunk to go sue RightHaven on the exact same basis (with or without facts) just to get in on the awards.
A lawyer friend of mine said such suits are the "Sign me up too judge" approach to lucrative litigation.

Thanks redreno.

Righthaven's antics have already undermined copyright law, and this could be the lawsuit that turns it into pulled pork.

Good. Now let’s see them also nail RightHaven and its newspaper partners in the whole sordid scheme under RICO and bury them where the sun don’t shine!

This is one company that goes after possible infringement because it can throw its weight around. Now some people aren’t taking it lying down!
