Just posted this:

SAS poised to rescue British oil workers stranded in Libyan desert ( as many as 500 stranded )

The 500 number is deeper in the article....

Editors lacking a numerical check it seems.

Ye, I saw that one about a month ago, posted by another FReeper on the Egypt thread.

Things will probably go underground for a while, and they may concentrate on the Secular Dictator ruled countries like Jordan, Syria, etc. Syria might be the next region to erupt.

Good point! I was going to start a new one this morning- then another live one started so I held off- I guess after supper I’ll start it anyway. I asked the mods a couple of times to bump it back up but it didn’t happen.

“Libya will stabilize and oil prices will come back down.” I don’t know about the stability part, at least in the Tripoli area, but oil prices seem to have stabilized, rising less than $1 since yesterday, and still under $100 for next two months. Even for the next year the highest future is only $102, and then drops back down. From what I heard on early radio, the eastern part of Libya is trying to get oil exporting stabilized. Libya only produces 2% of world crude. Here is todays late NYMEX oil prices:

http://futures.tradingcharts.com/marketquotes/index.php3?market=CL

Other reports I heard on early radio were from border crossings in Egypt and Tunisia. In Egypt swarms of people are leaving, large numbers of foreign workers, and especially Egyptian workers. I think I heard that Egypt had 1/2 to 1 million working in Libya. In Tunisia they reported about 15,000 coming out. Some are wounded, many have terrible stories. Those with funds are bused to the airport to leave for other parts. Those without funds are being housed in tents. NGOs, Tunisian medical and other volunteers are helping and feeding. If our country wants to help, we should send in additional personal, tents, beds, food, transport planes, etc. as the flood of refugees will no doubt continue, and unfortunately get larger. Of course, we will also need permission of two recently rconstituted/unstable? countries to grant that permission.

Due to the large flow of refuges, am betting nothing is safe for the moment. The person or persons to contact may bring an empty silence. Realizing this is not suitable, yet our nation may not have any cards to play yet, and playing maybe is unwise. Maybe best to hold off a little longer ... imho

A friend of mine commented on the phone today that he does not really want to be alive during the coming generation. Sounds like he is sort-of saying the same thing as you.

I threw the Mayan thing at him and told him he may not need to worry about anything more than reaching beyond December 2012 (smile).

WTF expressed in this one.
