Judge denies Madison School District request to stop teacher sick-out
Wisconsin State Journal ^ | 2/18/11 | Ed Treleven

Dane County Circuit Court Judge Maryann Sumi denied a Madison School District request to force teachers back into the schools. But a lawyer for Madison Teachers Inc., the local teachers union, said in court teachers will return to school Tuesday. The district late Friday filed for a temporary restraining order to bar teachers from taking part in any further work stoppages such as teacher demonstrations that have closed schools three days this week. The filing characterizes the work stoppage as an illegal strike. Strikes by teachers are prohibited by state law.

But Sumi denied the district's request, saying the district would not likely not prevail. She also said the three-day work stoppage was not a strike.

Great reporting...

Hey, I can paint your ass green and call it a water-mellon judge, but that doesn't mean it's anything other than an ass, and this is a strike.

This is like me traveling 25 miles over the speed limit, calling it accelerated forward motion, but not actually speeding.

Sounds like anther Carter/Clinton/Obama appointmenty headed nincompoop.

What does it matter what the protesters call it? The whole idea was that the state's children wouldn't be gamed like this. You do understand intent don't you judge?

Voter ID lawsuit tossed out of court

Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen’s lawsuit to force officials to cross-check information on voter rolls before the Nov. 4 election was tossed out of court Thursday.

Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi dismissed the lawsuit, saying Van Hollen lacks the authority to sue the state Government Accountability Board to force it to comply with the federal Help America Vote Act of 2002, known as HAVA.

Sumi said only the U.S. attorney can sue to enforce the federal voter law.

The old saying is “I’ll keep the money and you can have the cause of action”(lawsuit). They should have fired every teacher who failed to go to school, and let the teachers be the ones asking the court for relief.

I agree it is a strike, but look at the dynamics here. Let’s call it like we see it.

If the judge was to rule it a strike, we are literally getting to the point that somebodys (most likely the judges) house would get burned to the ground!

That’s how mean spirited and nasty these folks are getting.

This is turning molotov-cocktail!

I’d love to see the principles who will be in receipt of these false documents (sick note)also follow up with the insurance companies to cross check the billing from the Dr.’s office for the patient’s visit:) Physician’s notes are easy to obtain especially if the physician is a friend or sympathetic to the cause, but fraudulent billing to an insurance company is an entirely different matter

Then we bring in RICO and the FBI - if $1 or one phone call crosses state lines.

Face it - they are organized crime. And what they are doing is illegal. And it is impacting thousands of families.

If the districts were smart they would’ve put a wildcat clause in.This could be considered a wildcat strike.

If anyone needs a bus ride to tomorrow's Madison rally, sign up here.

If anyone is driving to Madistan, here's a map with parking garages.

And if you live in western Wis. and can't get to Madistan, Minnesota unionists will be gathering in Hudson for their own rally and the locals should meet them there.

You may show support for Gov. Walker's Budget Repair bill by signing this petition, set up by the WisGOP.

Patriots are meeting around 10am at the south steps of the capitol.

I say bring it on. It’s way past time when we should have stood up to these crooks.

Every one of us belongs in Wisconson right now BTW.

"Judge Maryann Sumi has been on the bench since 1998 and enjoys a reputation as a fine jurist and political liberal, informed observers say."

It would be funny if all the law clerks for this judge called in sick tuesday.

Although I’m certain she’d fire them.

Let them stay out. When the parents and students figure out they have no spring break and will in in school for most of the summer...you haven’t heard screaming yet.
