Lose a pound a day: HCG dieters say it's possible
wmbf News ^

The HCG diet claims to be natural, promises to help you lose a pound or more a day and even discourages exercise.

But critics and medical doctors say it can be also dangerous.

HCG stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin and is a hormone that is produced during pregnancy. It's detected in the urine of pregnant women.

HCG retailers say it works because it goes on the same concept that a pregnant woman's body will use stored fats to help send nutrients to the baby, even if she is not eating much.

Anyone could lose weight only eating 500 calories per day with or without the HCG drops or injections.

My wife and I ordered ours last week and we begin the diet on the sixteenth. I would not have even bothered except I personally know several people that are currently on the diet and have lost unbelievable amounts of weight. Due to my disability I am unable to do the excercise that I used to in the Army. I was a runner. I was fit. I was 6’1 185 and thought I had the world by the short hairs. Then I got diagnosed with a tumor on my spinal cord. Now, 10 years later I cannot run a step and have gained 100 lbs. If this diet can help me shed anywhere close to that 100 lbs, perhaps I can walk without pain again? At the very least I should be able to extend my life by a few years if I can keep the weight off.

Best success story I have heard so far is a woman that has lost almost 75lbs in 3 months. I’ll take that.

I wonder if the weight comes back on almost as fast as it came off once you get back to a regular diet

For pity’s sake people—stop poisoning yourselves and put down the damned fork once in a while! It’s not hard. See any fat people where famine forces them to eat fewer calories than they need? Of course not, because when you burn more than you take in you lose weight. Period. It’s a matter of discipline. Make small, permanent changes to your lifestyle and your weight problem will go away.

The article says that you also have to drop down to a 500 calorie per day diet.

I could package tap water and sell it as a miracle drug that would help people lose a pound per day (as long as they only ate 500 calories each day).

Not necessarily, the body shuts down. You need calories to fuel you metobolism. You need (your body weight X 9.8) calories to keep you metobolic rate at “normal”.

My best friend and I are on this diet. It’s boring eating pretty much the same thing every day, but we’ve been losing weight. What’s unhealthier? Being overweight or going on a crash diet for a couple of months? The diet has two phases you’re supposed to go on that reintroduces additional food into your diet to help you maintain your weight loss. I’ll find out how those work in a few weeks.

It DOES work. But you have to be ready to continue it for a sustained period and by then you will have changed your eating habits so that you do not gain it back.

Your diet that you posted requires a 500 calorie per day limit. I agree that bodies do go into starvation mode but only in very certain situations and only if those situations have lasted for certain periods of time. I believe the starvation mode excuse is way overused these days!!!!

However, if you limit me to 500 calories per day and put me on an island for two months, when you come back, I will not be overweight :-) ...and I didn’t even need your HCG drops..

You need calories to fuel you metobolism.

I already have the calories. They are in storage. I'm trying to move them out of storage and use them. I don't need to intake any more.

And to think I’ve been losing weight the dumb way. Expending more calories than I’m taking in!

That’s just crazy talk...
