As Egypt Burns, Obama and News Media Party Hearty Saturday Night
Sunday, January 30, 2011 | Kristinn

As thirty years of United States Middle East strategy teeters on collapse, Barack Obama spent Saturday night at a going away party for David Axelrod who is leaving the administration to set up Obama's reelection campaign in Chicago. The party was held at the Dupont Circle condo of former Obama aide Linda Douglass.

Douglass, who is now with the National Journal, played host to a gathering of cabinet secretaries including Arne Duncan (Education), Timothy Geithner (Treasury) and Steven Chu (Energy) and prominent reporters including Major Garrett (National Journal), Jake Tapper (ABC), Chuck Todd (NBC) and John Harwood (CNBC/New York Times).

Obama spent nearly two hours at the party.

Greta Van Sustern appears to be the only one in the media to report on Obama's party with her colleagues. Were it not for her posting the pool reports by the National Journal's Rebecca Kaplan at Fox News' GretaWire, the public would not know that Obama spent Saturday night partying with the media while Egypt burns.

Pool report #3.

Pool report #4.

They were celebrating MORE than just the escapades of Axelrod. Quite a bit more.

The media needs to stop this charade and investigate this administration from the top down.

Yeah, and he went to his daughter’s baskeball game in the morning, while Biden and Hillary talked about the situation. Obama is not concerned with the duties of the job. He just wants to eat his waffle.

Wonder if Major Garrett asked Obie WTF he was doing there, at a time like this.

He ought to meet with Mubarak. I posted a story earlier this morning. According to some reports, Mubarak is set up in Sharm-al-Sheikh at a golf hotel.

Are we sure the party wasn’t in honor of Egypt burning?

yah...the ass-kicking (P)resident can spend two hours partying on Saturday night, yet could not be bothered to attend the two hour strategery meeting on the Middle East Friday, instead leaving that to the Hildebeest and Vice President Bite Me.

This mess can go wrong so many different ways right now it is terrifying, and this Regime is in react mode because they have absolutely no idea what to do.

If he is true to character, I look for Premier Hussein to call for a Presidential Blue Ribbon Commission on the Middle East. That’s all he has done for the last two years on any number of important subjects to give him the appearance of “doing something” and “finding out whose ass to kick”.

Monday’s markets are in for a wild ride. Let’s see how high oil prices spike and how far the dollar drops...

If he is re-elected, even in light of these unspeakable foreign policy missteps if not outright criminal travesties, it will only mean (what I have begun to fear), that Obama now reflects America. And that America reflects Obama. The two will have been made for each other. For pete's sake, look at his approval ratings.

How many entertainment-opiated Americans have even heard of Cairo? Or know to the essence of its core this incredible global significance?

What's it to them if it burns to the ground, Nero Obama presides over this anarchy, and a fundamentalist Sunni super regime rises from the ashes?

There may be no immediate answers to these questions, but as is usually the case the United States, with Obama in the lead, is terribly behind the curve in all of this, due to lack of attention, insularity, and lack of paying savvy, informed attention to intricate matters on far-away shores long before they get out of hand.

I believe that O’s busy-ness with other priorities is probably a good thing for the whole world.

Notice how everyone in his administration had opposing views to air on TV.

Glad that the republicans did not jump out and dump on the administration while so many people’s lives in many countries are at stake.
