” If you default on your mortgage, then the banks convert their liens to ownership (robo-forclosure was just practice!)
If the banks default then their creditors may end up owning your house.
If they want you out, then they call the local Sheriff and his deputies walk you out into the street.”
laws on this work both ways, most places with homes built (communities) have ordnances on keeping the property up
banks are struggeling big already in that department
BTW, there is no money in working for banks to clean them up either
bump
Power is half of "money and power!"
It's a long way till things would get that bad, but my point is that the Sheriff's dollars are "worth" more than your dollars or mine. Understand?
Who’s going to work in the local cafe?
What grocery shipments? Who’s going to be in business? There will be riots.
However, I get the power thing, I do.
People who work for the people in power.
What grocery shipments?
To and from the people in power.
Whos going to be in business?
See above. There will be riots.
By the people not in power. The food/supply convoys will be re-routed. There's nothing you describe that hasn't been seen before...in Haiti, or in New Orleans....or in Waco.
It's just a matter of who will come out on top.
So when you hear people saying "ha! I've planned! I have MRE's and generators and lots of ammo." FMCDH people on this site.
Ask them how much "real power" they have stored. Connections. When the convoy comes by, will the people in power (1) pass them by in peace, (2) stop and share from the convoy, or (3) stop and TAKE, and add their hoard to the convoy.
Free Republic is ironically a collection of the LEAST PREPARED for post-apocolyptic society (especially those who TYPE the loudest), because we are ANONYMOUS, geographically ISOLATED, and as soon as the power/website goes down, totally CUT-OFF unless you have a group fall-back arranged with neighbors.
They say all politics is local. Well, All survival is local, and groups will do better than individuals. And if it's roving gangs against single-family defenses, the gangs win. If not today, then tomorrow, or tomorrow night at 3AM and another wave at 6AM and 11...you still awake? Your wife is hit and bleeding to death, you still shooting?
Read "Lucifer's Hammer."
Best realistic description of what really happens short and long-term to society after catastrophe. It will really make you reconsider your assumptions.
I’m just asking questions; this is why my previous post said my questions weren’t rhetorical.
Thanks for you reply and insight.
I see what you’re saying. This sounds identical to the events during Stalin’s reign.
I really recommend “Lucifer’s Hammer” Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle.
For two reasons. It describes how bad things might get, but it also ends on an optimistic high-note that gives hope, too! (And not that hopeychangey kind of hope!)
I also read some of Fernando “Ferfal” Aguirre’s blogs about the Argentina collapse after that, and surprisingly, it’s so simple.
It’s how you would act in Tijuana right now. Don’t look rich. Don’t act like a tourist. Simple stuff gets you such a long way.
It’s kind of strange...I thought of this exact scenario within my own neighborhood. There’s the group of people that are in their own click and it’s a decent amount...
I could see what you’re saying playing out.
