White people in the United States die of drug overdoses more often than other ethnic groups. Black people are hit proportionately harder by AIDS, strokes and heart disease. And American Indians are more likely to die in car crashes.
To shed more light on the ills of America’s poor — and occasionally its rich — the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday released its first report detailing racial disparities in a broad array of health problems.
While some are well known, others have had little attention; there were also a few surprises.
The agency did not delve into why suffering is so disproportionate, other than to note the obvious: that the poor, the uninsured and the less educated tend to live shorter, sicker lives. (Some illnesses were also broken down by income level, region, age or sex, but the main focus was on racial differences.)
“Some of the figures, like the suicide rate for young American Indians, are just heartbreaking,” said Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, the C.D.C. director, who ordered the report compiled.
He acted, he said, after promising at his agency’s African American History Month celebration last February that he would do so.
“We wanted to shine a spotlight on the problem and some potential solutions,” he said.
Many of the differences are large and striking:
¶Babies born to black women are up to three times as likely to die in infancy as those born to women of other races.
¶American Indians and Alaska Natives are twice as likely to die in car crashes as any other group.
¶More than 80 percent of all suicides are committed by whites, but young American Indian adults have the highest suicide rates by far — 25 per 100,000 population at age 21, compared with 14 for whites, 10 for blacks...

All the Left Media does is try to make White people feel guilty about everything and then spin political gain out of it while the more easily influenced young people are tossed to the wolves circling around the Leftist drug culture.
I didn’t bother to read the rest of the article but I just want to take a wild a$$ed guess and say that his potential solutions are big Government solutions.
i’m a caucasian guy, so should i share my ‘drug overdose’ problem more equitably with my red, black, and yellow brothers? /sardonic
According to the latest figures from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 14 out of every 100,000 men in metropolitan areas die by suicide compared with 18 out of every 100,000 in rural areas and 27 out of every 100,000 in very remote areas.
This could be looked at as indicating the difficulties connected to isolation, or the despair felt by drought stricken farmers whose land is in danger of being seized by banks. Unfortuantely, one of the most prominent responses to this statistic has been from Gay lobby groups, suggesting the reason more suicides occur in this area is rampant homophobia, and that steps should be taken to increase funding for 'Gay Friendly' outreach groups in rural areas. Of course, there is absolutely no information on whether rural men kill themselves because they are gay.
Rather than seeing information like this as indicating that all demographics face their particular problems, to me at least, this just creates another example of straight white men being further marginalised for political purposes. Their real problems are co-opted into the problems of a 'marginal' group.
Hopefully this study will not lead to too much of that kind of divisive spin.
Hmmm....big government involvement....wouldn't that mean...in spite of their best intentions of course....that equality would be achieved in raising white people infant mortality/car crash deaths....raising black people overdosing/car crash deaths....raising native American infant mortality/overdose deaths?????????????

Sadly, the blacks are hopeless. They vote 95%+ for the political party which oppresses them in every way that humans can be oppressed.
But for the environmental Left those are all good things.
Fewer people mean that mankind is producing a smaller carbon foot print.

Of course not. We can't be judgmental of the high-risk behaviors which tend to lead to a person's premature demise now can we?
Amazing... the NYT can spill out a mile`s worth of column inches about racial disparity among health problems... but not a single word about dietary and lifestyle choices. Those who want all the fat and grease on their Popeye`s chicken and balloon out to a BMI of 45% are....guess what... going to get those strokes and heart attacks more often than those who don`t.

Ilve heard it said before by a black former co-worker who, despite some very socially conservative leanings, nonetheless voted for Clinton in the `90s. She told me, “we`re black.. we vote democrat.. it`s just what we do.” I guess it`s just ingrained into the culture.
Who knew cars were racist?
Wonder if Whites will EVER grow tired of being the pinata and say enough?
Or it could be the same incidence of attempted suicide, and be an indicator that someone who attempts suicide in a metropolitan area is likely to be discovered more quickly and receive urgent care faster than someone in a remote area.

Did they do an analysis to show the impact of multi-decade democrat dominance on well-being?
There are more white people than other ethnic groups. They left out the rates based on percentage of the population.
They also missed the part about drunk driving and Native Americans.
One thing I know for sure. The left will say the “problem” is caused by capitalism, religion, conservatives, talk radio or Sarah Palin.
