Democrats see these kinds of gestures as signs of naïveté and weakness and as an open invitation to create more havoc.
Look what they did to Bush and his attempts to placate them with his “Compassionate Conservatism”. They used him, took everything they could, and crapped on him at every opportunity.
When democrats have the majority they consolidate their power and take the legs out from under anyone who looks like a possible challenger to their dominance. When republicans have the majority they try to show how fair and open minded they are.
Democrats and their tactics are winning the battles. Every year the Republic is weakened and our constitutional government becomes less constitutional.
Looks like Boehner needs a good primary opponent in 2012...

This is the behavior the teaparty folks detested and which ALWAYS results in moving the country leftward,......always leftward....ALWAYS....even when we bitchslapped them. Bohner wants to seem magnanamous, engratiating himself to the left (Rodney King sydrome) while alienating the very people who voted them into power.
How about doing what the conservatives want you to do Bohner! Govern conservatively....move the country back to its conservative roots. By doing so you tell the pelosi's of the world, that her behavior as speaker will not be tolerated at any level,....not by the electorate.....not by the ruling party governing the legislative branch of power. To do otherwise is to affirm Pelosi's methods and madness. Bohner!!!!!!listen to the collective will of the people who loaned you power, and who can remove it from your hands. Being nice to tyrants, while using euphemisms to placate the conservatives will no longer work. We are watching and listening.....we think....we see your ploy for what it is, and by God, we will not allow. We can only hope that he is as truthful about sharing power as Nancy Pelosi. If he gives an inch there will be a shark frenzy.
