I thought the French Foreign Legion was also in French Guyana protecting the space port.

“to assist Finland that was fighting against the Soviet Union. However, by the time the legionnaires reached their destination, the Finns have ceased resistance”
how “unfortunate”, eh france.

I think the headline is an exaggeration. Though I don’t see why Sarkozy would want to downsize. According to Wiki, there are @ “7,700 men in eleven regiments and one sub-unit”.
Not very many.

France is socialist godless secular humanist post Christian nation and therefore under the curse of the living and only true God, the God of Israel, as are all nations who sin against Him and therefore are morally and consequently economically bankrupt as the living God of Israel is Sovereign and Lord of Hosts.
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord , but sin is a reproach to any people." A prerequisite knowledge and of understanding( the departure from evil is understanding) and wisdom for securing the blessing of the Lord God of Israel, creator of Heaven and earth and all that dwell therein. God is the God of Israel,Christ Jesus is Lord and sin is the violation of His commandments. For those who live in darkness, search the Scriptures and you will see the clear gospel of God and His Son Jesus Christ( the Word of God who became flesh and who created the creature man upon the earth and has loved us and....).

Back in the day I was doing TDY operations in Africa. I was rubbing elbows at several hotel bars in Djibouti and in N’Djamena, Chad, with the men of the 13th Demi-Brigade of the Legion Etrangere (2eme Regiment de Parachute). They are some pretty tough hombres. I found a 13th DBLE t-shirt on Cafe Press and have been wearing it non stop.

Disband the Foreign Legion?
Sacre Bleu!

You were ahead of me in the calculation: the 1b Euro figure works out to about 129K per man so it must include health care, family support and perhaps even pension costs. This is not surprising when you look at the US defense budget the bulk of the costs remain in personnel; these costs are tricky to calculate.

The guys at headquarters might want to check up on those Foreign Legionnaires in Yugoslavia, since that country no longer exists. Maybe they are keeping the peace in Monte Carlo.

It’s Pravda, not necessarily the most accurate news source. More accurate than the NYT and WaPo, but not quite up there with the Enquirer.

Not going to happen. The French need the Foreign Legion too much. they may cut them back but never get rid of them. They will need them to protect their client states in North Africa.
To: Pan_Yan
Of course the French Foreign Legion is France’s best fighting unit, most of the unit’s soldiers are foreign!

I thought that camel belonged to the Royal Army.
