My assessment may not be fair to him (obviously if he is a changed man), but that is one of the consequences of such egregious behavior. Again, I do not oppose his earning a living, but will be hard pressed to re-evaluate his character.

In most people's minds, he committed a great, and nearly unforgivable sin. Naturally, it's going to take a lot of work on his part to convince the majority of Americans that he has truly repented, and changed his heart.

I for one, am willing to at least give him a chance to prove that to me, but it's up to him to restore his own personal honor and integrity.

The last time I checked, treason is a capital crime according to that pesky old US Constitution.

Saul of Tarsus turned his life around, and became the Apostle Paul. Good thing God chose to forgive and not kill him for murdering those early Christians.

All these folks who claim they cannot forgive Vick are going to have to answer a tough question from the Lord Jesus at the Great White Throne Judgment.

I will happily accept the verdict. The man will get no forgiveness from me.

It is a capital crime, but nobody enforces it.

The Feds don’t even ARREST people for treason anymore. If they did, 0bama and a big part of his criminal “administration” would be behind bars awaiting their fates.

Just because he can play ball...

Well that, and the 18 months he served in prison as payment for his crimes... and the fines... and the restitution... and the loss of his job and income... and the felony conviction he'll always carry on his record...

If Michael Vick was a moderately successful used car salesman, a first offense dog fighting conviction in Virginia would most likely have earned him, at MOST, a one year suspended sentence and a few years probabtion -- and the feds never even would have looked at him.

As it was, he was sentenced to 23 months in federal prison and paid nearly a million dollars in fines and restituation. He also lost a $100 million NFL contract. Because of his fame and notoriety, he actually received GREATER punishment for his crimes than a non-famous person would have received.

No one I know of (apart from Clinton Portis) has given Michael Vick 'absolution' for his acts -- but some of us are satisfied that he has paid an appropriate and just price for his crimes.

“some of us are satisfied that he has paid an appropriate and just price for his crimes.”

The rest of us are not. Some of the killers seem genuinely remorseful when they head up in front of the parole board. Some have spent most of their useful life behind bars. I don’t see giving them a pass either.

The issue is not the dog fighting for me. It was the bizarre tortures and killings just for the fun of it. This guy has some serious issues that seem to show a natural disregard for life. But hey, his handlers and PR people have everyone seeing a new reformed man. Go Birds! Right?

... often we have too many guppies in the aquarium, we give many away but at times we dump 20 or so down the toilet.

Waste of good protein - mix them in with the dog food!

Not justifying what Vick did, not at all... I own five dogs myself, and I would never even think of hurting any of them, or anyone else’s dogs for that matter. Just offering a little perspective, that’s all. I’m just saying that it’s sad that we live in a country where dogs have more of a right to life than the unborn... that’s all.

Ted Kennedy killed a young woman, and he did in a heartless and cruel way and I think, first of all, he should have been executed for that, he wasn’t, but the idea that the President of the United States would be getting behind someone who murdered a young woman is kind of beyond the pale.

“He served time in prison and came out repenting his sins.”

a) an NFL bruiser with street savvy/experience - I’d bet a year and a half wasn’t as life-changing for him as for other smaller, less aggressive, non-minority types.

b) does he really “repent” his sins or just that he got caught and spanked? Only God knows, but I’ve got my opinion, and it’s the latter.

c) regarding WayneS’ post about changing his “behavior” - behavior is a relatively superficial thing compared to changing one’s heart, which I think only God can do. The callous sadism and cruelty against innocent, helpless creatures that Vick played out time after time after time is unthinkable, sickening and heartbreaking.

Yes, I agree with all who’ve posted that animals shouldn’t be placed above humans - but evil against any innocent is always despicable. When it’s calculated against people, the death penalty shouldn’t be ruled out. Against animals, maybe a life sentence shouldn’t be ruled out as well.

A year and a half in either jail OR prison isn’t nearly enough for a guy like Vick, AND he gets to go back to the privilege of NFL stardom??? AND he makes the incredible comment that he’d like to have a dog one day???

That’s like a pedophile who’s “paid his debt to society” and who “repents his sin” saying he’d like to adopt a child one day.

“How do you think Pit Bulls got the way the are folks? They are a mean and vicious breed, period.”

I’m sure you’re going to get some responses on that one. Guess you never watched Cesar Milan, the Dog Whisperer. His number one pet was Daddy, a pit bull (until he died of old age). One of my good friends recently lost a dear family pet after 13 years, Scooter - also a pit bull - he’d had him since a puppy, and that dog was great with the whole family, all of us friends, and loved people in general.

To paraphrase Cesar M., there are no bad breeds just bad owners. It’s how they’re raised and treated. My ex and I had dobies - they were sweethearts, but well trained to know the good guys from the bad guys. Conversely, traditionally “nice” breeds can be mean if they’ve been mistreated or trained to be so.

Vick is quite a sick POS, but his crimes (of torturing and killing dogs, which is far worse than just fighting his dogs) don’t rise to the capital punishment level.

It was great to see the Vikings put the hurt on him Tues. night.

Humans life is more important than animal life. I realize that certain shut-ins and whatnot carry around toy poodles like they were kindred relations. But it doesn’t much match reality.

You have more in common with Paris Hilton than anyone else here, really.
