A Clayton County mother of six said the family dog did what he always did when he saw someone. He barked.
But when "Boomer" started barking and running toward a police officer Saturday morning, the officer shot the dog and killed it, Lawrene King told the AJC Sunday night.
Hes a golden retriever," King said. "He barks, but hes never bitten anyone.
A Clayton County police officer was on foot patrol on North Shore Drive when the dog jumped off a porch and started barking and running toward the officer, Capt. Tina Daniel said. The officer ordered the dog to stop and when it didn't, the officer shot and killed the animal in its yard, Daniel said.
The officer, whose name was not released, was responding to a call reporting a suspicious person, police said.

Can I at least talk to my cousin?
He’s a state trooper, a FR fan and die hard conservative.
He also helped me get medical attention for an injured baby deer when no vet would help.
[even though he’s an avid deer hunter, himself]
He loves animals.
[he’s also one of MD’s premier state police “snipers”...you’d like him and he’s a *very* good friend to have if/when the SHTF]...:)
Most dogs aren’t trained to ignore gunfire and yes, it spooks them.
It would have been a very sane, responsible way to handle it.
Wow.
Dude.
That’s cold....and awesome.
:)
[teach me how, please?]
Because the dog didn’t “respect” this MORON’S authoritah.
I hope this family sues the department into bankruptcy and this cop into homelessness.
Because we let them.....
Wait til the JBT-loving “cops-can-do-no-wrong” contingent here weighs in with their apologia for this imbecile with a badge.
I think this guy’s name, address, and phone number shouild be published far and wide. Where’s WikiLeaks when they could really be useful?
The dog was behind an “invisible fence”.
How more under control can you get, pal?
I see it didn’t take long for a JBT-lover to show up.
You must not have read MY post. There was someone advocating for this man’s family to be harrassed to teach this guy a lesson. I don’t advocate that for anyone - criminal or cop. As far as I am concerned this conversation is over.
If you are asking that question then you are A.) not very knowledgable about dogs, B,) another of FR’s coterie of JBT boot-lickers, or C.) just being facetious.
You better beilieve it, mister,
Look, bud, If cops are such WUSSES they fear Golden Retrievers they should find another line of work.
Incidentally, did either you, Stan, or your buddy Ollie see the words INVISIBLE FENCE in the article?
Here, here!
Who says God doesn’t have a sense of humor?
>>>>Dog shooting has become a sport among police officers
>>Never heard that one.
It is called hyperbole, and I’m sure the comment is brought on by how common these stories of cops shooting dogs unnecessarily have become.
Well, this moron did devastate another family, so I see some justice in that,
Maybe if this cop’s kids get some peer-pressure in the schoolyard then their brainless daddy will have to take job as a furniture salesman where he won’t be out using family dogsfor tarfet practice.
Sorry, no sympathy for the spawn of this idiot or the woman stupid enough to marry him and perpetuate his deficient gene pool. I only have sympathy for the family member who had their best friend killed by this lamebrain.
as the quality of police recruits continues to decline, this nonsense will get worseA Clockwork Orange
Excuse me, but just where does it say this dog was attacking?
He was on the property and just barking, what dogs are supposed to do in protecting their owner’s property. God help any asshat who shoots my dog. I shoot back.
I notice you got crickets as a reply on that one.
Plenty of later responses to others, but yours is ignored.
I smell troll.
If our cattle dog is needing some control (sees a squirrel across the street when we’re frisbying him) I yell “down” and he freezes and then “load up” and he looks around for an open car door. Totally breaks the fixation on the squirrel. With our 14 pound three legged asthmatic dachshund (rescue dog don’t ask) we wave a leash and ask him if he wants to go walkies. Even if he’s free and on his way to the next county he’ll come back to get on the leash to go for a walk.
I’ve seen the cattle dog in attack mode once. We had an intruder in the basement and he charged down the stairs and chased the intruder out the back door. We tried to get him to stay in the basement to guard what we saw as the weakest point in our house but he was so scared of what he had done that he wouldn’t come out from under the sofa.
Since when is selling meat out of a truck “suspicious” and warranting a visit from a donut-muncher?
Maybe they should follow every Schwann’s truck they see, too.
You can’t be this obtuse, can you?
“There are very few situations that can’t be made worse by the addition of a cop” has become the operative way to view things these days. Sad, really.
