It’s not about what’s best for the party but what’s
best for Steele.

Take a hike Mike.

When Michael S. Steele took over as chairman of the Republican National Committee earlier this year, he brought along longtime personal assistant Belinda Cook and gave her a salary nearly three times what her predecessor made.

Mrs. Cook’s son, Lee, also landed an RNC job.

Mr. Steele hired another family friend, Angela Sailor, to be the party’s outreach director at a salary of $180,000, more than double her predecessor’s compensation, though new responsibilities have been added to the job, according to a high-ranking RNC official and Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings.

Mr. Steele’s early record and personnel decisions figure to be hot topics at a special meeting of Republican state party chairmen Tuesday and Wednesday at National Harbor in Washington’s Maryland suburbs. His hiring of friends and the salaries he is paying them already helped to instigate a struggle over who controls the party’s purse strings, one that forced the new party chairman to relinquish some control to elected RNC members.

He doesn't stand a chance.

The establishment doesn't want him and conservatives don't want him.

The worthless RNC is in deep debt. I intend to continue to help perpetuate this by continuing to contribute directly to Conservatives.

What’s your problem with Steele?

He is a good talking head on news programs. The mailers asking for donations are sufficiently cheesey and include a return envelope
and a questionnaire to make it look like the RNC cares what you think.

Seems to me his job as manager would be a lot easier if the players (GOP elected public servants) played better.

I think in next seasons Congress they will make him look like Joe Torre (another manager who sucked until he had talent).

The 2012 Republican Convention in Tampa, Fla. won’t get underway for another 636 days. But that hasn’t stopped the Republican National Committee from spending over $636,800 on the convention more than a year and a half before it starts.

That’s 18 times the amount spent that was spent in a comparable time frame four years ago, the Washington Post reported, causing more than a few raised eyebrows within the party.

Critics of RNC Chairman Michael Steele have also focused on a lucrative job given to his longtime aide, Belinda Cook, convention-related gigs given to her family and friends and a variety of large expenses footed by the RNC.

The Washington Times first reported on Cook’s salary — which is nearly three times what her predecessor made — earlier this month. Over two years ahead of the 2012 convention in Tampa, Steele signed a contract making Cook a “convention liaison” and paying her $15,000 per month.

FEC records show that Cook was also paid $25,000 for “Political Strategy Consulting” back in July. Records reflect thousands of dollars in additional reimbursements made to Cook for travel, food and beverages.

The Daily Caller reported that Cook’s niece (Pamela Kesner), her son (Lee Cook), her son’s college friend (Erik Rohrmann) her former assistant (Grace Cushing) are all on the RNC payroll. Cook’s sister, Betina Barcus, has been paid over $25,000 for hotel management consulting, according to Federal Elections Commission records.

The RNC is also renting for Cook a waterfront mansion that measures 3,200 square feet and comes with private pool and dock, the Daily Caller reported. All in all, “The extended Cook cabal took home a total of $139,923 in the three month reporting period from July 1 to Sept. 30,” the Daily Caller wrote.

Steele may be incompetent and a fool but he is less of a RINO than some of the guys trying to run this time out....it’s very scary what we have to deal with either a fool or Establishment RINO’s trying to set the party back on track in their eyes

Steele will be on Greta’s show tonight.

There is a Romney guy from MI aiming for the job, and also a Rove puppet.

Steele likes Sarah Palin ad she likes him.

"...stunned friends and foes Monday by launching a fight to keep his job..."

Didn't stun me. I'd have been amazed had he actually pulled the plug on himself and done us all the favor of leaving. Realistically, what in the he11 else can he do?

This is the best gig Steele has ever had, and the way that he's messed it up he'll never get anything any better. He's going to need to be pulled out of this position. I'm afraid that we're stuck with him.

WASHINGTON (January 2010) - GOP Chairman Michael Steele thinks Republicans have “screwed up” for the most part in the years since Ronald Reagan was president. And, he adds in an interview on the heels of his new book’s release, Republicans won’t win back the House in fall elections and might not be ready to lead even if they do.

heh-heh..

Please oh please call me back RNC..you'll get the same answer as last time.

To the individual campaigns my money will go, to the token's, nothing.

The RNC needs to get out of the "grey area" of politics and run with American value's. We DO NOT CARE about the color of anyone's skin. Just bring us American's who wish to uphold Liberty and values American's can get behind.

WE are the inclusive party based on the INDIVIDUAL and THEIR merit!!

Michael S. Steele, Republican National Committee chairman, is using his title to market himself for paid appearances nationwide, personally profiting from speeches with fees of up to $20,000 at colleges, trade associations and other groups - an unusual practice criticized by a string of past party chairmen.

Mr. Steele, elected in January to the $223,500-a-year RNC post, is working with at least four outside agencies in Washington, New York, Boston and Nashville, Tenn., that book the speaking engagements. He charges between $8,000 and $20,000 for an address, plus first-class travel and lodging expenses.

One of the booking agencies, Leading Authorities — Great Events Start Here, with offices in Washington and Chicago, has a color photo of Mr. Steele on its Web site, where he is advertised as “Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland.”

Harry Sandler, who handles Mr. Steele’s bookings at Newton, Mass.-based American Program Bureau, told The Washington Times that Mr. Steele “tends” to charge between $10,000 and $15,000 for an appearance and that he received roughly that amount for a Sept. 21 speech at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Ark. Mr. Steele has an upcoming speaking engagement at DePaul University in Chicago, for which he will be paid $12,500.

“Holy mackerel, I never heard of a chairman of either party ever taking money for speeches,” said Frank J. Fahrenkopf Jr., RNC chairman under President Reagan and CEO of the American Gaming Association.

“The job of a national chairman is to give speeches. That’s what the national party pays him for. We didn’t have a rule book back then, but being national chairman was and is a full-time job,” Mr. Fahrenkopf said.
