Palin Urges Americans ‘Not to Forget Haiti’

Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska, urged Americans “not to forget Haiti” as she spent the weekend in the earthquake-ravaged country, the Associated Press reported.

The onetime vice-presidential candidate declined to answer questions from reporters at a brief news conference, saying, “We don’t need to be getting political here today, O.K., folks.”

Ms. Palin had joined the evangelist Franklin Graham and his organization, Samaritan’s Purse, in a tour of the devastation. In her brief remarks, the A.P. said she urged a military airlift of supplies.

“I know that there’s been some discussion of U.S. aid perhaps being lifted from this area,” she said. “Again — not to get political — but if some of the politicians would come here and see the conditions, perhaps they would see a need for, say, a military airlift to come bring supplies that are so needed here.”

> “What Haiti really needs, is for its entire government to be overthrown and exiled or imprisoned; and the country placed under martial law until such time as it can be re-colonized by a civilized nation.”

.
That’s more or less where it was when Bill Clinton re-injected Bertrand Aristede, and restored chaos. The military junta that was in place there was restoring order, and reestablishing agriculture, and education.

Haiti is a perfect example of what happens when helpless, uneducated, superstitious people Stop judging people about whom you don't have the slightest clue (I bet you couldn't even find Haiti in the map or even know which ocean it is in). I think Sarah did a nice thing in going there but neither her nor any one else can Save it. Thats not how development works. I understand rhetoric that supports our cause but at least make it make sense?

the crisis first hand utilized her executive experience to assess the situation Unfortunately this is not an "Executive Experience" point. There are some problems which are too great for individuals to solve, however powerful. Development is one of them. Nobody knows how to do it, and it only works when people, with some outside help, sure, do it on their own. Increasing aid Rarely improves conditions in different parts of the world. This is one of those cases where i disagree with Sarah. This problem is beyond her or any single individual to address.

Because she genuinely cares about people.

So do most Americans, but we simply cannot afford it anymore. Why does she get credit for caring simply because she step foot in the country? How many care but are hurting right now?

If people want to donate, good for them. But we have serious problems here.
