New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has swiftly become a superstar in the political firmament. His stands for the taxpayers and against wasteful government spending have exhibited the type of tough decision-making people have been waiting for among our politicians; his forceful stands against the public unions and the stranglehold they have over our lives and futures have become YouTube hits. He is the real Governator, not like that pretender in California.
Governor Christie has been touted as a future GOP candidate for the presidency. But Barack Obama knows of only one kind of preemptive war: against those who threaten his throne. Therefore, Christie has become a target of Obama and his team of minions.
The latest attack? The U.S. Department of Transportation (headed by Obama's political ally from Illinois, Ray Lahood) now wants to make New Jersey repay $271 million in federal funds already spent on a proposed Hudson River tunnel that Christie scrapped because of spiraling and never-ending cost overruns. The feds want the money now and will start charging "vig" soon.
The New York Post reports:
"The US Department of Transportation is demanding that Trenton repay $271 million in federal funds already spent on the proposed Hudson River commuter tunnel -- a project Christie scrapped because of spiraling cost overruns.
Adding insult to injury, DOT insisted that Jersey pay the bill within 30 days -- or face hefty interest charges and late fees and have NJ Transit reported to bond-rating agencies.
Not so fast, says Christie.
'It's not surprising that the same federal transit agency that had no clear way to pay for cost overruns of a project already hurt by poor planning and inequitable cost-sharing is relying on bureaucratic power plays to wring even more money out of New Jerseyans,' he said.
Christie notes that other states that have similarly pulled the plug on federally funded transportation projects have not been forced to repay money that's already been spent.
The strict 30-day deadline reeks of petty vindictiveness aimed at a governor who's increasingly being spoken of as a 2012 GOP presidential candidate.
Or, as Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg nastily observed, it would be a shame if .taxpayers ultimately have to foot the bill for the governor's mistake.'
This federal overreach is not the first orchestrated by the Obama team against Christie.....

You can see why there’d be war between Twinkletoes and Governor Christie. They are so opposite they couldn’t be more so. Christie lives in Literalville and Little Lord Fauntleroy lives in - what was Michael Jackson’s home called? - Neverland.
I like Christie because Obama doesn’t. That, however, does not give him a free pass for some of his non-Conservative views (anti-gun, for instance).
I would not like to see him in the Presidential race in 2012. There are better Conservatives out there, and the American political experience needs to focus on the roots of this country’s Conservative founding principles.
Chicago politics vs. Christie. I’m betting on Christie. He beat Trenton, I think he can do it here, too.
The White House gets more like George III every day. Governor Christie never flew to vacations on a taxpayer supported Boeing 747, nor did his wife mooch off the taxpayers to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Do you have any campaign information or any recent press releases from Christie that are “anti-gun” or are you basing that comment on a 1995 NJ Assembly race flyer that was posted here about a week ago in which Christie attacked opponents for wanting fully automatic weapons legalized?
If you have anything more up to date than that, please share it with us. I haven’t heard anything else about his position on the 2nd Amendment and I’d like to find out more.
(What he did with his runningmate 15 years ago could be completely irrelevant by now. Ronald Reagan was a liberal Democrat at one time. So were a lot of people here. Times change. People change.)
My specific citation is the same as the one you cite here, and I’ve read several Chris Christie threads that demonstrate that he’s at least averse to the advancement of gun rights. If he can demonstrate any leadership on gun rights in NJ (my birth state), I’ll watch with rapt attention, but his instinctive recoiling at the idea of “automatic weapons” indicates that he might bear watching on the gun rights issue.
If he continues to show leadership on gun rights, I’ll stand behind the man 100%, but I am an issues voter, and gun rights are my primary issue. I would’ve voted for him if I was a NJ resident, but I’m leery anytime someone is on the record as opposing anything concerning personal keeping and bearing of arms.
Politicians change their positions on issues all the time, sometimes out of political cynicism, sometimes due to personal maturation.
Christie says he isn’t running in 2012 and I don’t live in NJ...still, he has become a national figure and really owes it to the people who admire his work as governor to let them know where he stands on issues of general and/or national interest such as the 2nd Amendment.
I think I’ll email his office just to see what response I get, if any at all.
On Hannity’s show while Christie was running for governor, Christie asked on which issues he considered himself liberal.
He said he supports NJ’s gun-control legislation.
The guy is pro gun-control. He can’t hide from that.
Now, you may not consider that a critical issue. That’s fine, and if he runs for office on the national level, feel free to vote for him.
But I consider the 2nd Amendment a critical part of that pesky little document that has thus far prevented tyranny in this country called the US Constitution. If Christie runs for office at the national level, I will be voting for whichever candidate is a better supporter of the US Constitution, and I care not which part that candidate is running with, nor that candidate’s chances of winning.
Let me know what you hear back, Scanian. I understand that maturation can take a long time, and I’m always willing to listen to a pol who vows to fight for 2A issues. And I admire the man greatly for his take no prisoners way of standing up to the unions. We need more great politicians like Chris Christie, but the 2A doesn’t need any more enemies.

Now think of a replacement/alternative to that project that you have scrapped.

MoDonnell has shown innate acumen for business and job-creating infrastructure.
Truth be told, there are many exciting State Executives to choose from after 2012.
I think if he lets the state go bankrupt over this, it would be the best thing, rather than raise taxes to pay for this.

That’s the closest thing I’ve heard to a “current” policy statement on the 2nd Amendment from Christie.
Still, I want to see if his staffers answer my email (I’ll probably get some boiler plate—that’s politician SOP).
The fact is, in 1995, Clinton was saying that “The era of big government is over.” Do you think he believes that now? Do you think he believed it then?
We are talking about pols and they tend to say things that are politic.
In 1995, the GOP said they were pledged to the Contract with America and balanced budgets. Things changed rather quickly, didn’t they?
I have an open mind about 2012. I think it’s way too early to jump on any bandwagons and, in fact, most of the “suspects” deny that they have a bandwagon to jump on at this point anyway.
The only one I dismiss out of hand is Romney. He will never, ever be able to talk away his role in MassCare and, by extension, Obamacare.
If the government controls the Military (and they do), and if We The People have only pea shooters and the Military has chain-guns, where is our realistic "check-and-balance"?
The only people who fear a law-abiding citizenry with automatic weapons (and fragmentation grenades, rocket luanchers, and Bouncing Bettys) are criminals and tyrants, either one of which is seriously dead if they come within 500 yards of my bivouac.
When people start obeying the illegally restrictive public anti-automatic weapons bans, only criminals will have automatic weapons. Not on my watch.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people-—even educated ones with hard science degrees-—can spend a lifetime as voters and not be able to figure that out.
It is time for all governors and American citizens to stand up and just say no to the obamanation administration when they cheat and steal and just say no to obamacare and just say no to cap and tax. Govenor Christie is a true conservative leader and must lead against the violent and cruel adminstration of desolation.
There are more of us then there are of them and it is time for them to go.

Obama intends to “punish my enemies”.
The Governor who made the mistake was named Corzine, not Christie. Former Governor Corzine rushed this ill-conceived project forward so he could have a big ribbon-cutting just before the November 2009 election. The true cost of the project was not mentioned at that event.
Corzine, upon assuming office, called for an immediate review, and cancelled the project promptly. Is New Jersey to be on the hook another $231 Million because of the vote-buying behavior of Democrat John Corzine?
