Terror Threat: WikiLeaks Threatens U.S. With Information Nuke
Pat Dollard ^ | Dec 5, 2010 | Pat Dollard

Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder, has circulated across the internet an encrypted “poison pill” cache of uncensored documents suspected to include files on BP and Guantanamo Bay.

One of the files identified this weekend by The Sunday Times — called the “insurance” file — has been downloaded from the WikiLeaks website by tens of thousands of supporters, from America to Australia.

Assange warns that any government that tries to curtail his activities risks triggering a new deluge of state and commercial secrets.

Ben Laurie, a London-based computer security expert who has advised WikiLeaks, said: “Julian’s a smart guy and this is an interesting tactic. He will hope it deters anyone from acting against him.”

Nigel Smart, professor of cryptology at Bristol University, said even powerful military computers would be unable to crack the encryption. He said: “This isn’t something that can be broken with a modern computer. You need the key to open it.”

The file is 1.4 gigabytes in size, which would be big enough for a compressed version of all the files released this year and additional data.

So the theory goes that Assange’s value is only as good as his ability to keep the “key” hidden?

So to what lengths would a rogue nation or group go to get that key out of Assange’s grip?

Someone else has the key, or the dead man’s trigger can’t be set off. Maybe several people. Therefore, the whole whatchamacallit is only as strong as the weakest key holder.

While all this has been going on, Obama, Holder and crew have pretty much shrugged their shoulders. I hope the Republican House holds hearings ASAP into this mess very early next year.

Just adding that hearings in the Senate are probably a no-go unless enough pressure is brought to bear.

Why is this guy still alive? Who in their right mind would let him live must have his head up his a**. The blame for this belongs to that jerk in the White House and the news media better wake up because sooner or later the net will pread the word.

We have this and now we have the price of gas that is over 3 dollars a gallon. When will the press start telling us that the first semi black president is a fault for that too!

As an ex-crypto guy, I agree with you 100%. This Assange twit is just that and a very useful tool to top it off. What are more useful is those who peddle this crap by doing nothing about it. Zero and Holder rings the biggest bell.

Dana Barrett: Are you the Keymaster?
Dr. Peter Venkman: Yes. Actually I’m a friend of his, he asked me to meet him here.

maybe, but what I am wondering is how an E-3 had access to all this information that Assange is supposed to be in control of now

How many traitors did we have that fed this crocodile?

I wonder if the DIA/CIA is after him? He needs to be shut up!!! There are just some things I really do not need to know about.

This crap is putting our diplomatic core in danger, not to mention our soldiers.

Really irrelevant.

See, what you can do with the key is really just to release the pill. That doesn't mean neutralizing the data. And as long as the data sits in a thousand locations, you haven't changed anything.

The crocodile is uninteresting. Dig into Manning, and the MIT people who helped him. Manning's MIT people have been carefully kept out of the light, and even made some pretty threatening noises to keep it that way.

the NSA - and probably a few others- have acres of cray power that could crack the encryption in little time

Probably not and it's a moot point. The NSA doesn't need to know what's in the file. The goal is to keep everyone else from knowing. If the key is released then it's all over.
