Newt Gingrich: "We are not going to deport 11 million people"
Politico ^ | 12/2/10 | KENDRA MARR

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has a bold goal for the next decade: Overhaul the country's immigration system so that every worker in the United States is legal.

"We are not going to deport 11 million people," Gingrich said Thursday as he kicked off his first forum on Latino issues. "There has to be some zone between deportation and amnesty."

A possible presidential candidate, Gingrich stressed that his target of establishing an entirely legal work force is "not a call for amnesty." Rather, he said, it's about applying common sense to the immigration debacle.

"Dos y dos son cuatro" (two plus two equals four), he said to chuckles. . .

Contrary to popular talking points, it is possible to deport those who are here illegally.

One point of disagreement regarding Illegals “paying taxes”. If you're referring to sales taxes, then I agree. However, I don't believe they're paying income taxes as many of these people are working for cash.

You’re NEUTERED NEWT....FOAD.

They will self deport when workplaces/hospitals/welfare/etc. are required to validate ID’s and SSN’s.

"Which is why they’ll need to be driven out by other means."

While I would have a lot of problematic issues with your statement, generally speaking I agree with you.

How about we just deport you, Newt. Current law should be tried because it hasn’t been so far.

The US people do not want, nor do we need 11+ million foreign unlawful invaders.

How is that so hard to comprehend? The only thing I will give him credit for is at least being honest about his intent.

We’re not asking for them to be deported, numbnuts.

Penalize anyone who hires them, make anyone wanting government services provide proof of citizenship, and they’ll deport themselves.

I have a better idea! Deport all of us that are picking up the tab for all this crap! Deport us to Sanity Island where we can make a life for ourselves and live in peace.
They can have the hell hole they’re creating.

Close the Border first.

Deport until the unemployment rate drops.

I don’t think we’d have trouble with either of those. Then we can see where to go from there.

There has to be some zone between deportation and amnesty." There already is. It's called "Enforce The Law"!

Deport them as you catch them. Prosecute them as you determine they've stolen someone's I.D. or Socialist Security Number, etc.

For crying out loud. What's so difficult about this?

"The zone between deportation and amnesty is amnesty."

I don't know about that. They stay here because someone is paying them - from the meat packer, to the hotel to the restaurant - they easily find gainful employment. You cut off all social services and really slap horrifically punitive penalties on ANYONE who employs an illegal, they'd leave.

When you talk "deportation", the media does a pretty good job of painting the visual of millions of illegals packed into cattle cars, hearkening back to the Holocaust. That turns-off independents.

Republicans should turn their back on the corporate masters, and pass some laws that really screw these employers.

He is right that it would be difficult for the govt to deport that many people. What the govt can do, however, create and reinforce laws that make it very difficult for illegals to live, work, and get any kind of benefits (for them and their children). The law should also include huge penalty for those who knowingly hire an illegal. This will take care a big chunk of illegals.

At the same time, secure the border to make very difficult for additional people to come, but find a way to make it possible for illegals to leave the country immediately.

Agreed. You can’t just hand them citizenship on a silver platter. A “path to citizenship” has to require learning the language as a start.

You people nominate an open borders wh0re like newt or romney... millions of us will NEVER vote republican. Nominate a liberal like newt and obama will coast to a win... If it comes down to it... and I pray that is does not... I'd rather die fighting communism, than elect someone that wants to take us there a bit slower than obama. If I have to die... I'll do it with my boots on and not down on my knees!

“zone between deportation and amnesty”

I don’t see the middle ground. He says they’re not going to deport, basically. So that seems to be amnesty. Am I wrong?

You can’t trust ANY “public figure” in politics. Republicans never stay serious Republicans in office.
