Breaking: North Korea Fires Artillery at South, Killing 1
AP via FOX News ^ | 11/23/10 | Staff

North Korea fired artillery barrages onto a South Korean island near their disputed border Tuesday, setting buildings alight and prompting South Korea to return fire and scramble fighter jets. At least one South Korean marine was killed and 13 wounded, the military said.

The skirmish came amid high tension over North Korea's claim that it has a new uranium enrichment facility and just six weeks after North Korean leader Kim Jong Il unveiled his youngest son Kim Jong Un as his heir apparent.

One South Korean marine was killed, three were seriously wounded and 10 slightly wounded, a Joint Chiefs of Staff official said.

YTN TV said several houses were on fire and shells were still falling on Yeonpyeong island, about 75 miles (120 kilometers) west of the coast. The station broadcast pictures of thick columns of black smoke rising from the island, which has a population of 1,200 to 1,300.

President Lee Myung-bak ordered officials to "sternly respond" to North Korea's action but also called on officials to make sure that the "situation would not escalate," according to a presidential official. He asked not to be identified, citing the issue's sensitivity.

Thanks for the info but it is hardly breaking since yours is at least the 4th report I’ve seen on this. The North must be pissed off about something, don’t you think?

It’s only breaking news if you are in the White House. The White House seems to have fallen asleep at the switch.

There was no immediate comment from the White House and State Department

That's because it's way past Bammy's bedtime.

The WH we have today is always asleep at the switch. I assume that when Bozo figures out how to blame this on the south he will respond.

This is right up his alley. He’s pretty much dropped his domestic agenda and has been focusing on his foreign agenda ever since the midterm election shellacking the Democrats got.

They are pissed that naval exegeses are being held in disputed waters where they have already sunk a SK warship - the disputed waters were the result of the cease fire agreement to end the Korean War which the NK says no longer exists as far as they are concerned from the last incident.

It is simply a pissing match, with South Korea ending up with egg on its face with the death of one of their marines.

The South Korean people and government do not want this spat to escalate, they have even indicated they will not go to the UN - they would like to forget this ever happened.

Don’t worry the Obama Administration will do nothing. Even if a nuke was tossed. What to expect is the Obama administration to get on their hands and knees and kiss Kim Jong Mentally Ill’s boots. Don’t expect anything more. Now of course Obama will talk tough on TV, but don’t expect anything.

“What to expect is the Obama administration to get on their hands and knees and kiss Kim Jong Mentally Ill’s boots.”

I don’t think he wears boots. He wears those shoes with lifts. At other times, when not out in public, he wears tiny dancing shoes. You saw him wear boots?

Who do you think is pulling North Korea’s strings? Maybe Red China? And Why?

Here are a couple of excerpts on the newswire where I work.

The White House and China are expressing concern after North Korea fired artillery shells at a South Korean island early today, setting dozens of buildings ablaze and putting the nation on high alert.

The move elicited concern from several nations, including China, which is the closest thing the isolated nation of North Korea currently has to an ally. The White House issued a statement strongly condemning the attack and warning the nation to stop its, quote, "belligerent action." The White House added that it is in close contact with South Korea and is "firmly committed" to defending the nation

In addition WTAE-TV (ABC, Pittsburgh) reports that the South HAS returned fire.

That’s right he wears shoes. Well that will not stop Obama from still kissing his feet.
