You don’t send scores of your faithful blithely off the electoral precipice without consequences.
Last January, in the thick of the Obamacare debate, nervous Blue Dog Democrats met with Obama and communicated their unease. They specifically brought up Clinton’s electoral backlash in 1994, caused – to some degree – by Clinton’s failed effort to do exactly what Obama was having them do now: pass a healthcare plan.
According to retiring democratic Rep Marion Berry, as reported in ADG (subscription only, but here’s a good link from Politico to get the general gist), Obama dismissed their concerns, claiming his popularity would provide them adequate political cover. He told told jittery Dems “Well, the big difference here and in ’94 was you’ve got me.”
Fat load of good it did. One imagines Napoleon said the same to his generals before he invaded Russia. Yes, the Dems passed Obamacare, and yes, the French captured Moscow, but a month later Napoleon marched back out again and ultimately earned himself a long vacation at Elba. Now Obama’s in India and the word around the capital is the Dems sent him there to be rid of him while they assess the wreckage.
According to sources close to the White House, who put themselves in great danger by even talking to members of the media, the plans to have Obama leave for a visit to India, Pakistan, Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan are an attempt to get Obama out of the country while top Democrats can sort through the political disaster created for the party by Obama’s increasingly detached-from-reality presidency.

Uncoverage has pointed to an Obama-gate scandal, featuring Deep White House Insider Throat, or whoever. It could be big, or it could be as unprecedented as a logo with a green “D” in a circle.

Now that Obama has lost his rainmaker mojo and earned much enmity within his own party (not just for political setbacks, but also for his pettiness, arrogance and condescension), insiders have already started scheduling private meetings with journalists who have suddenly started paying attention for the first time in three years.
The party is terribly alarmed at the prospect that Obama’s doing serious, long-term damage to the brand. The kind of damage that could take decades to undo. And that’s why the Obami are in India playing Sultan: the Dems are deciding what to do about him.

He’s sure got plenty of potential political backlash to be nervous about.
I doubt the truth of this because the trip to India was planned before the election, unless the Dems had a gut feeling they would lose as badly as they did. I suppose if they had won it could have been a “victory lap” for Obama rather than a “gotta get outta town” tour.
You can’t pull off a trip to India that costs $200,000,000.00 per day without a lengthy preparation time.

His f’ing mother-in-law? That is worse than Wilson’s wife running things. At least Wilson was suffering from a stroke as well as incompetence.

Obama ran his campaign similar to a high school electing their class president. His politics isn't about substance, positions on issues (what he presents to the people) but rather his personal popularity and race, albeit the later he injects subtly, unlike the Al Sharptons and Jesse Jackson's. Sad statement about the US electorate.
An extremely Liberal Boston radio host (who, right up to the day of the election was crowing that the Republicans were going to be embarassed) said today that “everyone knew” the Democrats were going to be hugely defeated. “We knew it months ago!” And his conclusion was that the India trip was planned long ago for that reason — get Obama off stage after the big defeat.
Not the least bit surprised to hear this. I still remember that “deer in the headlights” look he had on election night November 2008.
Robin, is this a round about way of connecting Obama to the Carbon bank in Chicago he’s connected with ?
It would sure be interesting to see the rot and corruption inside the WH and dem party.

I think we should let the dems sort this one out on their own. The republicans should not put themselves in the position of being blamed for the fall of the first black president. Let Hillary’s people do it, you can be sure they are behind this.
PS I want him to go too, but I want clean hands in this matter going into the next election. If we are involved they will use it against us.
You have correctly stated the facts.
I guess the Dem's didn't believe that there really, actually could be an electoral disaster. I overestimated the survival sense of Democrats.
