JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A coalition of 13 states has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold an Arizona law penalizing businesses that knowingly hire illegal immigrants.
The Supreme Court is to hear arguments next month on the 2007 Arizona law, which ---- snip ----

I know exactly who he is. I’m from AZ as well. I was being snotty and facetious (to him) with my reply.
Got that right! Abbott is usually pretty hard core conservative but for whatever reasons he's AWOL on this one.
Recall: our nation only started with, and defeated the British, with 13 states.
My desciption of him was the kindest I could muster and not get bannished to DU/KosLandia by JR.
Looks like the states are banding in groups to attack the feds on different fronts. Keeping them tied up in court cases diverts their attention from other states who pass other laws.
If I were an AZ legislator, I’d line up a few states that have similar laws on other federal issues - guns, abortion, etc. - and pass legislation. Then, when the feds come after you, bang!, you’ve got them in a trap.
They’ll have to back off or get bogged down in a losing battle. In fact, AZ could sue DOJ for harassment.
We don’t have to put up with this crap from this so called court.
Possibly, but I don't think it will be bloody. The Civil War pitted the federal govt and a group of states against another group of states. This civil war will pit the people and the states against the feds. The states really haven't exercised their rights for awhile. It's heartening to see them wake up and band together. With all the governorships and state houses changing hands this election, I expect to see more states stand up against federal tyranny. If the states unify, there's really not much the feds can do about it. Federal strength has always relied on a divide and conquer philosophy. The people and the states are starting to unite like never before. Come to think if it, it might not be a civil war so much as a revolution.
That's the way I feel about it. We The People and the States can just as easily tell the court, "YOU'RE OUT OF ORDER! Enforce unconstitutional nonsense -- if you can."
I could be wrong, but I don’t think this is the SB1070 law that’s gotten so much play. This law deals with employment of illegal immigrants and was passed a few years ago... SB1070 was the stop and detain illegals law.
“John Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it.” - Andrew Jackson.
I believe Andrew Jackson had Marshall pegged: The first "activist" chief justice who did as much to weaken the bindings of the Constitution as just about anybody in our history. Marshall, hailing from the "judicial supremacy" school of statist beliefs, he and Thomas Jefferson weren't exactly bosom buddies either.
